Me

By Sarah Hulin

I.
I
I have blonde hair
I shave under my arms
I have my father's thumbs
my mother's fair skin
I have chubby cheeks
and blue eyes
I write stories
I used to not like eggs, but do now
I like songs about colors
I've cheated on tests
I've snuck out of the house
But my hair is still blonde
and my cheeks are still chubby
and I probably won't like the taste of eggs again

II.
I have strong bones
I have eyes that are curious
I have a knee that hurts
I grin when I'm lying
I feel the dissapointment in others
but smile anyway
I like the night sky
I've coveted others belongings
I'm from Oregon
but lived in North Carolina for years
I've lied to my parents
I've made friends mad
But my arthritic knee still hurts
I still have curious eyes
and my bones
won't always be strong

III.
I have strong legs
I have soft skin
I have narrow eyes
I borrowed from my great-grandma
I have wide toenails
which become in-grown sometimes
My face is slightly crooked
I live
I used to paint sky scenes
I listen to music while sleeping
I've lied about my weight
I've pretended to be German
But I still have soft skin
and my toenails get in-grown
and I probably won't always have strong legs
and I won't always be alive
But maybe I'll start
painting stars,
moons, and suns again
