"Gaining Momentum"
West Toronto December 16 18:00:
On an increasingly cold night, I hopped in
my truck with food loaded in back, to see for myself, an apparition
that usually is confined to nursery rymes and Hollywood.
Somehow, Big Business, Labour and Community Representatives, all
agree,
"There, but for fortune, go you and I"
Please join this bandwagon,....Consider those less
fortunate, and remember them at Christmas?

I checked out the CP Holiday train at Windsor
station this evening.
I looks good, it's bright, it stands out but
isn't gaudy. The
Killareny looks especially good--almost like someone's home that's
been decked out for the Festive season.
Cheers,
Jim

Seasons Greetings!
Christmas train through the area tonight.
I caught it at Brickburn, 18:58,
in the typical Alberta weather,(snow one minute, clear the next.)
9114 &
the double stacks lighted sure looked neat. He was sure pounding
out of the
city, had it wound right out in notch 8. Whistle blowing the whole
deal,
nice show. Lots of people out to see it. Was going to chase it
west to
Banff, but it wouldn't quit snowing, and we had to do road patrol.
At 17:34 eastbound intermodel empties w/9558
& 9552 still sat in the hole at
Cochrane, after two hours. Must be the result of the special train.

For Those Following CPR's Cross-Canada "Christmas
Train"
Just heard on the Scanner-CP's Special "Christmas
Train" now east of
Port Coquitlam at Mission West at 1630 PST. Looks as if will arrive
at
Port Coquitlam Station by 1700. Due out of Port Coquitlam around
1805,
due downtown Vancouver at 1900 til 2100. Fireworks display-"In
Fog" so
far not unless it clears.
Heading shortly to my favourite parking lot-to
watch the special go by.
Parking lot at station too much traffic as its Eastbound Commuter
rail
time, as well the view of the CP Special will be blocked by CP/Westcoast
Express trains.
Commuter train will pass the Christmas Special at Albion.

And for further details on the Holiday Train.....
NEWS RELEASE sent to the media on Dec. 9.
Release: Immediate, Dec. 9, 1999
5,000-km goodwill voyage
CPR EMPLOYEES READY HOLIDAY TRAIN
TO GENERATE FOOD, CASH FOR NEEDY
Canadian Pacific Railway employees are assembling a
train for a 5,000-km goodwill voyage from Montreal to Vancouver
that will draw attention to the problem of hunger in Canada and
generate food and cash donations for food banks across the country.
The CPR Holiday Train, draped with 1.6 km of festive
lights and lit by 5,000 bulbs donated by Canadian Tire, begins
its nine-day voyage from Montreal on Dec. 15 with send-off ceremonies.
It arrives to a display of fireworks in Vancouver on Dec. 23.
Between Montreal and Vancouver, the Holiday Train will stop for
events in 11 cities.
CPR, through the Canadian Pacific Charitable Foundation,
will make a cash donation of $100,000 to Canadian Association
of Food Banks members.
"I can't think of a better way to end this millennium
than for CPR employees and our partners to work together in building
stronger, healthier communities by stamping out hunger in Canada,"
said Robert Ritchie, President and Chief Executive officer of
CPR.
"Hunger is a serious problem in Canada. Every
month, about 800,000 people, including about 325,000 children,
don't have enough to eat and turn to food banks for help. Hunger
hurts the body, numbs the mind, and kills the spirit. As Canadians,
let's show our true spirit and generosity as the CPR Holiday Train
travels its 5,000-km route across the country."
Lit by 5,000 white lights, the CPR Holiday Train will
turn heads as it rolls across the land. Following a grand send-off
in Montreal, it will stop for ceremonies in Smiths Falls, Toronto,
Thunder Bay, Winnipeg, Brandon, Regina, Moose Jaw, Calgary, Banff,
Revelstoke and Kamloops before rolling to a final stop in Vancouver's
Gastown area. In each of these communities, local residents, officials
and food bank representatives will join with CPR employees to
celebrate the Holiday Train and encourage donations.
Along its route, the CPR Holiday Train will pass through
hundreds of cities, towns, villages, and reserves reminding Canadians
of the need to give to their local food banks. Plans are being
developed to ensure that people will have an opportunity to safely
view the Holiday Train as it passes through after daylight hours.
The Holiday Train initiative is supported by CPR employee
unions in Canada, including: the Transportation Communications
International Union (USWA); the Canadian Pacific Police Association;
the Brotherhood of Maintenance of Way Employees; the Rail Canada
Traffic Controllers; the International Brotherhood of Electrical
Workers; and the Canadian Council of Railway Operating Unions
(BLE/UTU).
"The members of the Brotherhood of Locomotive
Engineers are very proud to contribute to a project that will
directly support our less advantaged neighbors who rely on food
banks," said Dennis Curtis, CCROU (BLE) General Chairman.
"We encourage all of our brothers and sisters to get involved
with the Holiday Train."
Julia Bass, Executive Director of the Canadian Association
of Food Banks, said: "It is very exciting that CPR has found
such a festive way to support Canada's food banks. The Holiday
Train is a great way to rally Canadians at a time when the need
for generosity is greatest."
Canadian Tire and its Foundation for Families are adding
to the spirit of the voyage by collecting food and donating cash
and toys to help families in need. Canadian Tire is also joining
CPR in a national advertising campaign for the Holiday Train,
has donated the lights for the train, and is sponsoring a fireworks
display to herald the train's arrival in Vancouver.
The Holiday Train will have 12 double-stack container
railcars and a CPR vintage passenger car pulled by one of the
railway's new high-performance locomotives. On the 12 railcars
will be 24 containers belonging to 15 companies, including Canadian
Tire, The Bay/Zellers, PC Financial - Loblaws - Real Canadian
Superstore, Sears Canada, Consolidated Fastfrate, China Ocean
Shipping Company (COSCO), DSR Senator Lines, Mitsui OSK Line,
NYK Line, Cho Yang Shipping Co., Orient Overseas Container Line
(OOCL), Hyundai Merchant Marine Co., "K" Line, Yangming
Marine Transport, and Norasia Line.
