Lightning Storm
I remember the day the lights went out
When the storm winds blew
and the rain fell on rooftops like a thousand soldiers marching.
I remember my fright, my startle, and my surprise as I lay
alone in the darkness.
When the sky shouted, and the ground shook at its words
I remember my glee,
when my curiosity go the best of me
I grabbed my raincoat and ventured out to watch the storm
untamed, wild and free.
I remember my smile,
as the winds blew the heavy rains upon my face
and watched as it fell like a waterfall on high
and the sky blinked as electric hands reached for me
out of the cloud filled sky.
In all directions they came,
they reached they clawed
and I watched fearful, expecting them to reach me
and take me away
only for them to fade eerily away into the night sky
With every storm
every wind
every flash of lightning
I know that deep inside somewhere
I will always carry that storm within me.
