The Mako Shark

(Isurus Oxyrinchus)

This widely distributed and fastest moving shark uses it's speed to bear down on and capture it's prey.It can be found in all temperate and tropical seas, from the surface to a depth of about 500 feet. It is known to be a long distance swimmer, and has been seen to leap out of the water to heights of fifteen feet when caught on fishermans lines. One individual was tracked travelling 1,332 miles in 37 days, an average of 36 miles a day.
