This shark is usually found far offshore, and often can be seen by boaters or divers. It is most abundant in the tropics, but can also be found from southern California to southern Australia. It will eat almost anything it can find in the open sea, including whale carcases and garbage dumped from ships.

It has a stocky body with two dorsal fins, long pectoral fins and a low interdorsal ridge. The tip of all fins of this shark are white. This shark has a broad, short, rounded snout; triangular teeth; round eyes; and no spiracles. The upper body is brownish gray, fading to a white underside

Reproduction: Females give birth to between 6 and 15 pups per litter. The gestation period is 12 months.

These sharks are very aggresive and will dominate other sharks that are competing for food. They are very dangerous to humans.
