If you can't sleep because a cricket's come calling, here's a sure cure. Put a wet washcloth in your kitchen or bathroom sink at night, and you'll find your noisy "neighbor" hiding there in the morning.
Newspaper repels moths, which is quite helpful when storing woolen rugs.
To make your own cleaning solution for windows that's easy and less expensive than commercial solutions, add 1/2 cup rubbing alcohol to 1 quart water. Either use it in a pail or pour it into an empty spray bottle.
Corners cut from used envelopes make great bookmarks. They just slip over the page you wish to mark.
Cure for headaches: Take a lime, cut it in half and rub it on your forehead. The throbbing will go away.
Salt will put out a grease fire, so keep a box handy near the stove.
A line of salt around the edge of porches and sidewalks weekly will keep down slugs and snails.
Clean stained procelain surfaces with a paste of cream of tartar and hydrogen peroxide. Spread the paste over the stain and scrub lightly. Let the paste dry and then wipe or rinse it off.
Use lifesavers candy to hold candles in place on your next birthday cake! Kids love 'em!
Stuff a miniature marshmallow in the bottom of a sugar cone to prevent ice cream drips.
Zap garlic cloves in the microwave for 15 seconds and the skins slip right off.
To prevent egg shells from cracking, add a pinch of salt to the water before hard-boiling.
To easily remove burnt on food from your skillet, simply add a drop or two of dish soap and enough water to cover bottom of pan, and bring to a boil on stove-top--skillet will be much easier to clean now.
Spray your Tupperware with nonstick cooking spray before pouring in tomato-based sauces--no more stains.
If you don't have enough batter to fill all cupcake tins, pour 1 tablespoon of water into the unfilled spots...this helps preserve the life of your pans.
When a recipe calls for buttermilk and there is none on hand, you can add vinegar or lemon juice to whole milk, using 1 tsp for each cup of milk.
Keep a powder puff in your flour bin for dusting cake pans.
Use shiny cookie sheets and cakepans for baking rather than darkened ones.
