Questioning of the Sow (Lord of the Flies):

  1. Prior to Simon’s death, you had a conversation with him, did you not?
  2. What did you discuss in this conversation?
  3. Weren’t you the one that told Simon to go back to the boys?
  4. He listened to you and went back, right?
  5. So Simon’s death is also partly your fault since you scared him and made him go back, correct?

Questioning of Jack:

Simon:

  1. What were you doing at the time of Simon’s death?
  2. For what reason were you dancing around the fire?
  3. And it was dark outside, correct?
  4. So does this mean you couldn’t see who came running out from the forest while you were dancing around the fire?
  5. What happened when this “beast” came screaming into the middle of your dance?
  6. Were you the only one involved?
  7. How many other people were involved?
  8. When did you realize who this “beast” was?
  9. Was the death of Simon intentional?

Piggy:

  1. How EXACTLY was Piggy killed?
  2. Who dropped the rock?
  3. Where were you standing at the time of this crime?
  4. Did you make any indication that you wanted Roger to drop the rock onto Piggy?
  5. So am I correct in saying that you had nothing to do with the death of Piggy?

Cross Examination of Piggy:

Simon:

  1. What were you doing at the time of Simon’s death?
  2. Were you involved in this dance that was being performed around the fire?
  3. Now, is it false in saying that you denied that Simon was murdered?
  4. But you clearly stated on pg 156, after Ralph had told you that Simon’s death was a murder, …”it wasn’t—what you said.” Is this correct?
  5. And I believe you stated to Ralph, “It was dark. There was lightening and thunder and rain. We was scared!” Is this statement correct? (pg 156)
  6. So then you are admitting that the death of Simon was purely an act of self-defense in which every single boy on the island participated?
  7. So Piggy, can you tell the court that you are just as guilty as Jack in the murder of Simon?

Piggy:

  1. Where were you at the time of your death?
  2. Why did you go there?
  3. But you knew there was a chance of getting hurt, didn’t you? Did you not see what happened to Simon?
  4. So you went to Jack and his tribe taking your own risk of getting hurt, correct?
  5. Why would you even think about putting yourself in danger? You knew you couldn’t fend for yourself if something were to happen on account of your asthma!
  6. Now, when you got to Jack and the rest of the boys, did you make any comments that would provoke any of the boys to try and hurt you?
  7. I’ll ask you again Piggy, did you make ANY comments that would provoke ANYONE to try and hurt you?
  8. But textual evidence clearly shows that you contradicted their way of living/conducting things on the island.

            --You said…

“Which is better—to be a pack of painted Indian’s like you are, or to be sensible like Ralph is?

“Which is better—to have rules and agree, or to hunt and kill?

“Which is better—law and rescue, or hunting and breaking things up.”

  1. Do you deny this? (If necessary: Well it clearly stated on pg 180.)
  2. So you can admit that you made a few provoking statements toward the boys?
  3.  Piggy, who dropped the rock on you?

Cross Examination of Ralph:

Simon:

  1. Where were you at the time of Simon’s death?
  2. Who was there?
  3. What were you doing at the time?
  4. So is it true in saying that Jack was not the only person involved in this dance/ritual.
  5. Who came running out of the forest?
  6. You were included in this dance/ritual/feast these boys were having, right?
  7. So this means you were involved in the death of Simon?
  8. But everyone that was there killed Simon, isn’t that true?
  9. And not one individual stood out as being the sole murderer of Simon?
  10. So doesn’t this mean that you had an equal role in the murder of Simon as Jack did?

Piggy:

  1. Where were you at the time the murder of Piggy was committed?
  2. Can you tell us exactly where Jack was standing in relation to Piggy?
  3. And where was the rock dropped from?
  4. Did Jack make and indication that he wanted anyone to drop the rock?
  5. So are you telling the court that Jack was nowhere near the rock before it was dropped?
  6. Ralph, did Jack Merridew drop the rock on Piggy?
