Personal Reflection

I thought that the case went very well, especially for my side, the defense. I think that we were very prepared for this case and did a good job at proving our points. I’m very happy that Jack was found not guilty for the murders of Simon and Piggy because despite that fact that he was my client, I honestly felt that he was not the murderer, or sole murderer of these cases. In Simon’s case, he obviously helped in killing him, but I really believe that it was for self-defense and not just because he was a violent person and wanted to kill Simon for no reason. Also, in this case, every single other boy in the group helped with the death of Simon. On account of Piggy’s death, I also truly believe that Jack had nothing to do with this. Yes, he was there but I really, truly believe that he was innocent. I’m a little disappointed, however, that my client received 3 years in prison, but on the other hand, I can’t disagree with the fact that he tried to kill Ralph. One thing that I would do differently in this case would be to focus in a little more on the attempted murder of Jack. My partner and I did not really go into detail on this. I think that if we did, the verdict would have been not guilty for the attempted murder of Ralph. I would have argued that again, Jack was not the only one involved in this crime. The rest of the boys on the island were too. Although, I do think it is much different from the death of Simon, where everyone was involved again because that was a case of self-defense and the attempted murder of Ralph was not. I think that the witnesses on the side of the defense did an excellent job in convincing the jury that Jack was not guilty for the murders of Simon and Piggy. I wouldn’t have changed any questions on the direct examinations. However, for the cross examination, I would have wished that Piggy would have agreed with my question that he was equally as responsible as Jack was for the murder of Simon. Piggy denied this on the stand and made it very hard to get my point across although it did come through in the end. Nevertheless, Piggy was not on my side and it was good for the prosecution that he gave me a hard time. All in all, I thought this case was a good experience for me because a want to be a lawyer sometime in the future. I also had a good time doing it.
