Raleigh Zoning
Zoning FAQs and cases, maps, terminology zoning processes; and
how-to information for file rezoning or protest petitions...much
more...
Filing protest petitions: There are two kinds.
Know the difference before you start petitioning.
- Valid Statutory
Protest Petition —
when it meets all
the VSPP requirements, it will result in requiring 3/4ths of
City Council's votes to approve the zoning request. Only
certain types of property owners can sign this type of
petition. And, even then, the petition still has other
requirements before it is deemed "valid."
- Community or
neighborhood petitions
do not have the
same legal impact or specific requirements as a VSPP.
Nevertheless, you should follow the same general guidelines
about listing names, addresses, etc. and having the petition
wording on each signature page. These petitions can be
presented at the public zoning hearing.
Read the very specific
VSPP petition requirements for wording,
signatures, deadline etc.
Site Inspections
- Want to schedule an
inspection, check on the inspection results (your inspection or
other inspections), look at plan review comments?
- Citizens can use this
online center to research general building permits and check the
plan review status of building projects. If you just want to
peruse what may be happening on a particular street, just type in
the street name and do not specify an address. Log-ins and
passwords are not required to view this section. For additional
information, contact Jim Tschupp at 890-3702.
