Oct 2004 Update

Hello ladies,

We are encountering difficulties registering with the SEC.  The names suggested were all rejected due to several listed corporations carrying the names St. Paul, SPCM or Paulinian.

We had a chance to consult with Chiqui Escareal-Go, SPCM HS'79 homecoming chairman and her advice is to keep things simple, like their batch did.   (1) They just opened a checking account to carry the collected funds and appointed two trustworthy signatories from the batch.  No need to register with SEC, which will cost an additional P20,000.  (2)  Since there are already too many foundations around and a caring fund will cost a whopping 1-million-pesos to put up, they simply aligned themselves with the existing St. Paul Alumni Foundation.

Ladies, with 14 months to go, let's do a reality check.  The silence from most of our batchmates means that we are too busy with our  lives. We members of the homecoming committee are doing our best to keep the ball rolling, but we have career & family demands to attend to as well.  So let's do it the batch '79 way, let's keep things simple. (Eka nga ni Mica, "We are Paulinians 'di ba? We're all from Sim Pol, kaya keep it simpol!)  Let's be copycats, but with a twist!

First let us focus on our main mission -- to carry on the tradition of mounting and hosting the SPCM homecoming and to ensure a successful event that members of SPCM HS'81 & other SPCM alumni batches will cherish and be proud of.  It is an event that will be talked about and it will establish us as a distinct & innovative batch.   Let's do it well, target a realistic amount of Php300k for now ...  then pray it snowballs into something bigger to allow us to do more fulfilling, charity-oriented projects, either on our own or together with the SPCM Alumni Foundation. Maybe by then, more of us will have the time, energy and resources to sustain regular batch projects whether in the Philippines or abroad.

So if you're all in this with us, we suggest opening an account immediately.  The signatories should be the ones who are easy to track and who won't run off with the money.  The committee suggests Cecile Ventura and Dr. Sharon Reyes ... sana another one pa who's a rich batchmate like Gigi but she's in Cebu! =)  We also suggest a few auditors for check & balance, these are Elaine Sarmiento, Bing Santos-Padilla and Ochie Buenavista-Pacifico.  If anyone from the batch has other suggestions, we'd like to hear from you.

Cecile Ventura advises that she will announce the bank details by November 3, Wednesday.

For our foreign-based batchmates, we hope you agree to our proposal and will make the $100/member contribution.  You may opt to pool the money and keep it in an account over there (para $$$ interest) and release the funds closer to homecoming date.  At the same time, we realize that there may be alternative and practical fund-raising activities that you can easily organize overseas, and that's fine too!  What's important is that we are aligned in our objectives & targets. Cres, Chiqui, you may want to take the lead in discussions? Let us know what the group decides on so that we can include it in the general plan.

To local-based batchmates, pls be reminded of the Fri, Nov 19 batch reunion, it's going to be a Christmas affair cum mini bazaar.  Those interested in selling their wares, pls contact Mica.  Hubbies & kids welcome!  May uuwi ba from overseas?  Come home early so you can join the party!!!  Details on venue, etc. c/o Mica and the membership committee.

The warmest regards to everyone!
