If it is an emergency, call your local police department. They can ensure the immediate safety of a child and get medical attention if needed. Then call your state or local child abuse hotline. Unfortunately, it is not always enough to report only to local authorities. Always call the national hotline as a precaution.
Remember:Suspicion of abuse is all that is necessary to file a report.
Your information can be given anonymously
You will be asked to describe your concerns about the child and it will be helpful, but not mandatory, if you can provide:
The child's name Age Address Gender School attended (if possible) Names of parents License plate (if occurred in a vehicle)
Both the reporting party and the child who is allegedly being abused must reside in the same state for the following state numbers to be valid....OR...
When the reporting party resides in a different state than the child,or for states not listed, please call
Not every hotline is 24 - hour accessible
If the state does have a hotline, it
may only be accessible within that state.
ALWAYS CALL LOCAL AUTHORITIES FIRST: 911
