There isn't really any counter terrorism unit, each squadron just take their turns being the counter terrorist team. Each full Squadron, will spend a few months training as counter terrorist units, the benefit of this is, there are always a full 80 men ready to fill the various slots needed in any given scenario. A troop will be on immediate ready, and the rest ready to go in a very brief amount of time. An example of this would be the Iranian Embassy siege. They train in a special building called "The Kill House". It is one of the best anti-terrorist training facilities in the world. The building simulates a building that has been taken over by terrorists, it has targets, loudspeakers, gas ejectors, electronic pop-up targets, and many doors to practice breaching maneuvers. The units are trained to use all sorts of weapons, including the Browning High Power 9mm, the "Flashbang" or "Stun Grenade", they are also trained with the Remington 870 pump-action shotgun, which fires the "Hatton" shells, which is used to knock hinges off doors. They also use the Heckler und Koch MP5 which fires 9mm rounds, there are many different designs of the MP5 but the CT team prefer to use the MP5 A3, which has a butt that can be adjusted to certain lengths. Last but not least, the beater stick.. Now you're probably thinking that the SAS go in and beat the terrorists to death. This isn't the case, the beater stick is used for pulling bits of doors out, and for breaking windows. In the picture on the left, you'll see some troopers practicing. The one at the front of the line has a Remington 870, the one at the end has an MP5 A2 and a beater stick. If you want to learn more about these weapons, go the my Weapons/Equipment page. I have all the Weapons + Equipment that the SAS uses. |
