Static-line Parachute Training
For all potential SAS recruits, the last stage of training is the Static-Line Parachute Training course. This four-week course involves eight jumps including one from a static 9tethered) balloon, one at night and one at low level under operational conditions.
it is only on the successful completion of this stage that the candidate is finally awarded his "Sabre" wings and, on returning to Hereford, finally accepted as a "badged" member of the SAS entitled to wear the Regiment's beige beret and winged dagger badge.
Arduous though they are, the Selection and Continuation programmes are designed to ensure that the quality of soldiers the SAS Regiment receives are up to it's exacting standards. In the Following 12 months of probationary service, the SAS Trooper joins a four-man patrol. It is here that the real training effort is undertaken. The new trooper learns his specialised patrol skill (medicine, demolition, communication or language) as well as the particular skills of the troop to which he has been assigned.
