Govt to jumpstart new CdO airport
President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo announced last Jan. 11 that Cagayan de Oro City's Lumbia Domestic Airport would be traded off for the construction of the long-delayed P6 billion Laguindingan International Airport in Laguindingan, Misamis Oriental. Arroyo authorized the immediate release of P500 million to jumpstart the Laguindigan project and P10 million for the relocation of the 100 families who are still living in the project area.
The President also announced that the bidding and awarding of the project contracts would be held within this year. The results would be subjected to international standards and the approval of the Korean Export-Import Bank as part of the stipulations of the loan agreement. She initiated the groundbreaking ceremonies for the airport project together with Misamis Oriental Governor Oscar Moreno, Cagayan de Oro City Mayor Vicente Emano, and Laguindingan Mayor Orville Abellanosa among other officials. Pre-construction is set this July 2006 to June 2007, horizontal structures July 2007 to June 2010; vertical structures July 2008 to August 2010.

To all my dear classmates of batch 1969 and fellow alumni of LCHS:
As the year 2005 comes to an end and we await the start of another year,
I'll ring in the new and I'll ring out the old. But there are two things
which I just cannot ring out: You and the memories of our friendship.
Wishing you all a happy and healthy Y2K6. In His Time.

Comments
on GAH
Tue, 17 Jan 2006 02:30:54 +0000
To Laureto & Elsie Lao: Thanks for voicing out your concerns
regarding the 2nd GAH. I'm glad you remembered my comments before
about the date of our GAH, that we should not keep changing the schedule
because those from outside the Philippines especially will find it hard
to re-adjust their skeds. August would be fine as the month for our
GAH just like the first time we had it. So hopefully the 3rd GAH
will be held on August 2008. See you all then. In His time.

Y2K6 At A Glance
There are, however, a few things that struck my concern as I observed the deliberations during the Consensus Meeting presided by Vice Mayor and alumni president Henry Dy. In the discussion, two particular subjects got my attention. They are: the yearly alumni reunion for those alumni residing in the Philippines to be held every Philippine summer time as suggested by Suniel Lim, and the point raised by Teresita Racines on the month and date for the 3rd GAH.
Honestly, time and time again I was quite disappointed when the month and date of the 2nd GAH was suddenly changed from the original 1st GAH. In fact, numerous alumni here in the U.S.A. shared the same sentiment. On my part, I voiced these comments directly through our alumni e-group so that our LCHS-AA officers would realize that alumni living abroad also deserve to have their voices and opinions heard. Alumni who lived abroad don't have the luxury of time attending yearly reunion compared to our local alumni. An interval of 3 to 5 years is our only golden chance and maybe our only chance in our lifetime to grace the GAH. In the case of our 2nd GAH, two months before its date was finalized, I asked that it be held in the same month and week as it was with the 1st GAH. As a matter of fact, my good friend, Dr. Henry Yu, also voiced similar concern on the change of date but to no avail. Our voices were ignored. Several alumni abroad were so disappointed because they already set their time of vacation six months prior to the month of August only to discover later that the 2nd GAH was reset to July instead of August. It was simply impossible for many of us working abroad to just reset our vacation from August to July.
We all know there was lesser attendance in GAH-2005 than in GAH-2000. Nevertheless every alumni who attended it enjoyed it so much. Last time I also voiced my concern that the less attendance maybe attributed to the registration fee. There are some local alumni who simply couldn't afford to shell out P1,500 for the registration. I have said it then and I will say it again: Unless we create a solution to this matter, enhancing attendance is not attainable in the future. My proposal is to create a subsidiary fund that will help some local alumni concerned to attend the GAH. The funds may be raised from alumni contributions or sponsorships. Or the registration fee may need to be reduced to a more affordable level. I know there were numerous local alumni who chose to stay home because they could not afford to attend the GAH because of the fee. What good would a Grand Alumni Homecoming be if many alumni do not show up at all? We should make the GAH accessible to all for we cannot discriminate against or ignore those who cannot afford the fee as they also have the same privilege as alumni of LCHS.
I know this won't be an easy task for our hardworking alumni officers. But I'm sure more discussions and free exchange of ideas and opinions among our alumni at home or abroad ought to be aired and heard. After all, these are all aimed at the same objective: the benefit of our beloved Alma Mater, the welfare of our LCHS Alumni Association, and the success of our next GAH.
