"The Tsinoy Heritage: A Dance Drama," a cultural and dance presentation of the Resurrection of the Lord Chinese Filipino Catholic Community (RLCFCC), was a huge success.
Held on Dec. 11, 2005 at the MSU-IIT, Iligan City, the show dramatized the heritage of the Tsinoy community in the Philippines in songs and dances. It was conceived as a fund-raising project for the construction of the parish complex, including the RLCFCC church ceiling, office, meeting place and priests' living quarters. No less than 140 people, with ages ranging from 7 to 70, combined their talents and resources to present an evening of well choreographed production numbers showcasing different facets of Tsinoy heritage in Philippine history. Among those who took part in the programs were officers and members of the RLCFCC, members of the St. Michael Filipino Chinese Catholic Ladies' Circle, The Filipino Chinese Catholic Youth (FCCY), and teachers & students of LCHS.
Our congratulations to the RLCFCC for such a well-conceived and magnificent presentation.

Why
go to church?
Tue, 31 Jan 2006 13:14:39 +0000
If you're spiritually alive, you're going to love this! If you're spiritually dead, you won't want to read it. If you're spiritually curious, there is still hope!
A church goer wrote a letter to the editor of a newspaper and complained that it made no sense to go to church every Sunday. "I've gone for 30 years now," he wrote, "and in that time I have heard something like 3,000 sermons. But for the life of me, I can't remember a single one of them. So, I think I'm wasting my time and the pastors are wasting theirs by giving sermons at all."
This started a real controversy in the "Letters to the Editor" column
much to the delight of the editor. It went on for weeks until someone wrote
this clincher: "I've been married for 30 years now. In that
time my wife has cooked some 32,000 meals. But, for the life of me, I cannot
recall the entire menu for a single one of those meals. But I do know this
... They all nourished me and gave me the strength I needed to do my work.
If my wife had not given me these meals, I would be physically dead today.
Likewise, if I had not gone to church for nourishment, I would be spiritually
dead today!" When you are DOWN to nothing ... God is UP to something!
Faith sees the invisible, believes the incredible and receives the impossible!
Thank God for our physical and our spiritual nourishment!

Forty Years Ago
Let's take a walk down memory lane and recapture the splendor of 1966. Forty years ago. For the baby boomers in us: Where were we in 1966? What were the happenings of that era? What were the hit songs, top grosser movies, popular brands of items from toiletries to apparels to food, etc.? Do you remember that time in your life?
One of the things we often associate the year 1966 with was of course the Sampaguita Stars '66 of the famous star builder Dr. Jose Vera Perez, composed of Pepito Rodriguez and Rosemarie Sonora, Ramil Rodriguez and Shirley Moreno, Dindo Fernando and Blanca Gomez, Bert Leroy, Jr. and Gina Pareno, Edgar Salcedo and Loretta Marquez. Among the top tunes of the era were: As Tears Go By, Before You Go, Black Is Black, Bus Stop, California Dreamin', Devoted To You, Don't Sleep In The Subway, Homeward Bound, I Understand, Mr. Lonely, Sealed With A Kiss, She Wears My Ring, There's A Kind Of Hush, Walk Away, Yesterday, You Don't Have To Say You Love Me, etc. Soul and Bye-Bye were the popular dances. Two of the hit movies were The Sound of Music and To Sir With Love, and the many series of those James Bond 007 movies of Sean Connery, and the Tagalog movies produced by Sampaguita, LVN, Premier, Larry Santiago, Lea Productions, etc.
1966. Forty years ago. We were in our high school uniforms. We were crazy over autographs, slum books, pen pal writing, jukebox, jam sessions, radio dedication programs, stamp and postcard collection, Song Cavalcade and Pioneer song hits, Graphic and Expressweek magazines, Wakasan komiks, 45 RPM records of the Beatles, Cascades, Gary Lewis and the Playboys, Lettermen, Everly Brothers, Petula Clark, Eddie Peregrina, Eddie Mesa and the Hijacks, Jose Mari and the Electromaniacs, Tilt Down Men, etc., Tancho, Old Spice, Mennen Skin Bracer, Fanbo, Kokuryo, Kaminomoto, Serg's, Ricoa flat tops, Fibisco chocolate crunch, Royco noodle soup, petti coat, balloon skirts, jack shirts, tight pants, Custombuilt rubber shoes, Spartan rubber slippers,Vonnel, Banlon, among many others.
How many of these I've mentioned do you still remember vividly as when they actually happened or were the IN things forty years ago? 1966 -- the year that was. But deep in our hearts and minds, the memories will always remain untarnished with the passage of time. Yes, 1966. It was a very good year.
