DiyandiDIYANDI FESTIVAL 2006
Iligan celebrates fiesta

Iligan City celebrated its fiesta with a month-long frenzy of festivities last Sept. 29.  Held yearly in honor of its patron saint, St. Michael the Archangel, the festivities included an agro-fair, musical and cultural shows, and sport contests.  Among the highlights were Kasadya street dancing, farmers bazaar, Miss Iligan beauty pageant, civic & military parade, solemn procession, dyandi & eskrima, street party, and fireworks.  Hala bira! Viva San Miguel!

Iligan ranks 2nd in revenue collection

GraphIligan City is second to Cagayan de Oro in terms of revenue income in Region 10. The city's Actual Gross Income for the General Fund reached P497,713,790 in August 26 which constitutes 63.75% of the projected P780M for the year 2006. Cagayan de Oro City tops the list in all of region 10's eight cities and five provinces with only more than a million pesos in excess of Iligan's total collection to date.

Among the factors attributed to Iligan's good collection performance are its reinforced amusement tax collection, wide-range monitoring of business and real property taxes, extensive media campaigns, door-to-door delivery of tax bills and in-depth ocular inspection of business establishments including night spots.

Five fingers of prayer
Sun, 10 Sep 2006 09:10:06

To live a full life, always be guided by the five fingers of prayer:  1. Your thumb is nearer to you, so pray for those who   are closer to you.  2. Pointing finger; pray for those who teach, instruct and heal.  3. Tallest finger; pray for our leaders, they need God's guidance.  4. Ring finger, the weakest finger; so pray for those who are weak, troubled, and in pain.  5. Little finger, the smallest; to remind you to pray for yourself.

What matters most
Thu, 21 Sep 2006 13:49:13

Fifty years from now, it won't matter how you did on a evaluation exam, or how good you are in school.  No one will care how many pairs of shoes you had.  It won't matter if you miss a day of duty.  Your highest score on practice won't be traced.  It won't matter if your uniform was messy, or if all your notes weren't the best.  But if you made life better for just one person, that is what will be remembered.  And that's what will matter.

What life is all about
Sun, 24 Sep 2006 15:31:34

Life is all about waking up each day to discover something new; about meeting old people but making new conversations; about walking through old roads but still feeling nice about it; about realizing that you have grown each day older but still feeling young at heart; about meeting busy schedules but still finding time for old friends; about being nostalgic about bygone days but looking forward to better days.

Luthang warfare
Luthang

Armed with luthang, these boys prepare for urban battle with a rival gang across the street in Cebu City.  The luthang is a homemade bamboo pump gun with wet paper as projectile.  The scene brings back memories of our own childhood in Iligan when we used to engage ourselves in luthang warfare with neighborhood boys.  It's a relief to see that despite the passion for high-tech gizmos among today's children, this indigenous bamboo pistol is still alive and "popping."  Photo by Charles O. Sy (Batch '67).
