In their bid to distinctly celebrate their 25th anniversary (silver jubilee year 2007) as alumni of Lanao Chung Hua School, Batch 1982 Class, represented by their class president, Phillip Steven D. So, and his fellow classmates, donated to their Alma Mater twelve teacher’s tables for classroom use. The donation was made in a turn–over rite at the recently-concluded 69th Commencement Exercises of LCHS on March 26, 2007. On hand to receive the symbolic Deed of Donation was Henry T. Siao, the school director.
An exceptional undertaking, brilliantly thought of and a plan that could spark as a catalyst within the circles of LCHS’s alumni community, this was just a kick–off venture which the group agreed to initiate on top of other planned projects within the span of their anniversary year. With this thrust comes the intention of the group to encourage similar responses from succeeding alumni batches.
All through these years, LCHS has always been a grateful recipient of numerous donations coming from various alumni sectors on an individual capacity and from philanthropic contributions coming from Chinese clans belonging to the Iligan Chinese community. It is only at this moment in time that a graduate batch has solely considered the idea of celebrating their jubilee year by collectively embarking on projects meant to facilitate the school. Indeed, a milestone in the history of school assistances and alumni involvement. Congratulations to Batch ’82 Class on their silver jubilee and for their unique undertaking! Keep it up!

Iligan election derby sizzles up
SUMMER HOLIDAYS. Summer time is always a favorite season for traveling. This holds true for many of our alumni as well. Spotted last April 24 snatching a quick side trip for a hometown visit to Iligan was Antonio Leo "Boy" Te (Batch '69). Boy, now a successful physician in Taiwan, breezed into town to visit some old hometown friends and relatives. Earlier, he flew from Taiwan to Manila to grace the graduation of his daughter.
Sighted recently enjoying a summer holiday in Hongkong was Jian Leih Racines (Batch 2003), daughter of Julius Racines (Batch '69). Jian Leih is a fresh graduate in B.S. Nursing and is now reviewing for the next nursing board exams. In the meantime, Jian Leih's sister Jane Dale Racines (Batch 2001) has jetted back to the U.S.A. as leaderof a team undergoing advanced training at the IBM headquarters in the U.S.A. This is Jane Dale's second official trip to the U.S.A., courtesy of IBM. She is employed with the Human Resources Department of IBM in Makati. Jane Dale finished B.S. Psychology at the Ateneo de Manila University. She used to be a regular contributor of the Spectrum during her school days at LCHS. Also seen going on a brief vacation in Hongkong were Dominic Siao (Batch '85) together with his wife and kids. Meanwhile, all set to fly off to the U.S.A. on May 1 are Roderick Ngo (Batch '70) and his wife Marivic. They will be in America for about two weeks to pay a visit to family members and relatives in the U.S.A. Likewise sighted recently flying off to China were Sy Chu Tek (Batch '56), Sy Chu Eng (Batch '56), and Florcita Tiu Sy (Batch '64), and some friends. They toured the world famous Three Gorges Dam in Yichang, Hubei Province. The Three Gorges Dam is the largest dam in the world. It is as wide as the Golden Gate Bridge and twice as tall, capable of generating 18 gigawatts of hydro-electric power.
ILIGAN POLITICAL DERBY. With elections only a half month away, the political derby in Iligan City is already sizzling up. Top bets for city mayor are Lawrence Cruz (LDP); Franklin Quijano (Lakas-CMD); and Alejo Yañez. Vice mayor contenders are Henry Dy (UNO); Ruderic Marzo (Kampi); Romeo Nabua (Lakas-CMD) and Franco Badelles (LP). Candidates for representative of the 1st congressional district are Imelda Quibranza-Dimaporo (Lakas-CMD); Vicente "Varf" Belmonte Jr. (GO/UNO); Nikki Badelles (Kampi); Uriel Borja (Independent), and Leo Zaragoza (LP).
Noticeable among the contending lineups is that Lawrence Cruz's running mate under his party's slate is councilor Ruderic Marzo. The surprising change in the tandem is reportedly the choice of their party or coalition. It's indicative of a major shift in political alliances. Lawrence Cruz apparently has thrown his support for his relative, Nikki Badelles, on her congressional bid. Nikki is the daughter of outgoing congressman Alipio "Tikbong" Badelles. Ruderic Marzo and Nikki Badelles both belong to Kampi. On the other hand, Henry Dy and other allies, like Moises Dalisay, Jr., Voltaire Rovira, Alfredo Busico, and Chonilo Ruiz, are sticking it out with councilor Varf Belmonte, who is running against Nikki Badelles for Iligan's congressional seat. Henry's mayor of choice, however, is still Lawrence Cruz as some of his banners and political ads show a "Belmonte-Cruz-Dy" combination. Varf Belmonte, an engineer and husband of alumna Roseanna Co, is said to be the leading contender in the race for the congressional seat. His bailiwick consists of many coastal towns in Lanao del Norte. His strongest opponent appears to be Imelda Dimaporo, who is on her last term as governor of Lanao del Norte. A member of Iligan's Quibranza clan, she is the wife of congressman Abdullah Dimaporo, son of the late political kingpin, Ali Dimaporo.
Also back joining the fray is Jose "Joe" Booc (Batch '68). A perennial candidate, Joe is running anew for councilor of Iligan City. He ran for the same position in the previous election but failed to make it. Joe is a former barangay captain of Iligan Poblacion. Of late, he has identified himself as a media man.
