Iligan radio critic survives slay try
A hard-hitting radio commentator was shot and critically wounded in the morning of Oct. 8, 2007 by an unidentified man near a school. Police investigators identified the victim as Jose Pantoja, in his early 40's, and a block time radio commentator on DXLS FM "Love Radio."
Pantoja, who was on board his motorcycle, had just dropped his daughter off at school and made a brief stop at a copying center near the MSU-IIT in Tibanga highway to have some documents duplicated. A gunman wearing a bonnet sneaked up from behind and shot him point blank with a .45-caliber pistol, hitting him thrice on the stomach. The assailant fled and boarded a waiting getaway motorcycle parked nearby and driven by a bonnet-wearing cohort. Pantoja was rushed to the neary Mindanao Sanitarium Hospital where doctors have declared him in critical condition. Iligan City Mayor Lawrence Cruz instructed Police Director Senior Superintendent Virgilio Ranes to conduct a thorough investigation into the incident. City officials and different media groups here condemned the shooting and considered the incident as an affront to press freedom. Police are looking into several angles in their investigation to determine the motives behind the shooting.

Trials, like a washing machine, twist us, spin us and knock us around.
But in the end, we come out cleaner, brighter and better than ever
before.

Thoughts
to ponder
Tue, 2 Oct 2007 08:46:15
Some thoughts to ponder: 1. Make peace with your past so it won't
screw up the present. 2. What other people think of you is
none of your business. 3. Time heals almost everything; so
give it time. 4. No one is in charge of your happiness except
you. 5. Don't compare your life to others because you have
no idea what their journey is all about. Each one of us is created
special. Have fun and enjoy life.

Things
I learned in kindergarten
Tue, 02 Oct 2007 11:19:33
Things I learned in kindergarten that are still in use today:
Share everything; play fair; don't hit people. Put things back where you
found them; don't create a mess. Don't take things that aren't yours.
Say sorry when you hurt somebody. Live a balanced life; learn, play,
enjoy. Sing, dance. And most of all, it's good to know that
when you go out of the real world, make sure someone is holding your hand
... God.

Growing Up and Growing Old
"Aging is a slow process of saying goodbye. We say goodbye to friends who die ahead of us. We say goodbye to familiar places as we move from old neighborhood to a village in the suburbs. We say goodbye to old traditions, old ideas and old familiar church hymns and love songs. Everything seems to be leaving us when we grow old and gray. Even our eyesight and memory." An author once wrote.
How true indeed! Aging is a slow process characterized by a period of decline and goodbyes.
It seems like only yesterday when we used to walk around the LCHS campus in our school uniform as hyperkinetic teeners, young, innocent, and carefree, laughing all the way in endless giggles and jubilation, going up and down the stairs to the high school building everyday of our lives, eating in the canteen during recess period, playing basketball, volleyball, pingpong, badminton, or being up there on stage as performers, as singer, dancer, or declaimer/orator, living up with peer pressures, the barkada, puppy love, crushes, infatuations, etc. How fast time really passed by! The next thing we knew we were students no more. Yes, gone are those days when we used to be the school's contestants in the Literary Musical Contest.
Life is indeed a cycle. We were yesterday's students and today's professionals. As time goes by, we move one step ahead. Our children took our role as yesterday's students. We become the parents. And our parents become the grandparents. Very soon, we too will become lolos and lolas. For now, it's our kids taking the lead with us staying backstage in supporting roles. Yes, gone are our superstar days when we used to be the campus hearthrobs, crush ng bayan, the Coca-Cola bodies, the flat tummy, the face that refreshes, the vim, vigor, and vitality of youth and all that jazz. For now we just contend ourselves sitting at home sipping coffee while we make a rewind of our youth, reminiscing the memories of our dreams as we listen to the songs of our time, feeling nostalgic as we remember the times of our life, of the way we were.
We all go through the process of aging. Old age is "replaying the past, playing in the present, and preparing for the future." It is inevitable and inescapable. It is a reality that we all have to face and come to terms with. Time passes and we grow older with each passing day, year after year after year. "Growing up is mandatory. Growing old is optional." Yes, doing it with grace is another story.
