The
LCHS Alumni Association, now under the stewardship of President James Booc,
is once again preparing for its annual Christmas party to be held at the
LCHS gym on Dec. 30, 2007. Playing host to the occasion are the LCHS
Alumni Foundation and members of the Class of 1982 (this year's Silver
Jubilarians). The Christmas party of course will not be complete
without the raffle draws offering lots of beautiful prizes. Proceeds of
the sales of raffle tickets will go to the LCHS Alumni Foundation Scholarship
Fund and school improvements of the Alma Mater.
Alumni outside Iligan City can help the scholarship fund by participating in the raffles. They can join the raffle by simply texting or emailing their desired ticket numbers directly to the LCHS-AA and remitting the corresponding payment to the bank account of the LCHS-AA. Booking may be communicated by SMS to Roger Suminguit on cell phone number: +639189277641; or by e-mail to: teboncho719@yahoo.com. The LCHS-AA bank account details may be obtained from Roger Suminguit. Raffle tickets are priced at only P100 each or P1,000 per booklet (with 10 tickets). The following raffle ticket numbers are available for booking by text or email:

Molded
by experiences

Blinded and walking alone. That's what most
of us feel. In a lifetime full of major risks and decisions, it might
seem safer to remain stagnant. But isn't it more fulfilling if despite
the fear of falling from a cliff and bruised knees, steps were taken?
In the end, losing and mistakes won't count. What matters most is
the the kind of person we turned out to be. Not naive but wise and
beautifully molded by experiences.

Broken

Broken trust can be best described as a crumpled
piece of paper. No matter how hard you try to straighten it out,
it will never return to its true form.

Dear fellow LCHS alumni: I was browsing over past issues of the Spectrum thru the internet and have found out this piece from the July 7, 2005 issue. Here goes:
"July 4-9 DECLARED LCHS ALUMNI WEEK. The Iligan City Council, on June 28, 2005, passed Resolution No. 05-608, authored by City Councilor Alfredo R. Busico, declaring July 4-9, 2005 as "LANAO CHUNG HUA SCHOOL ALUMNI WEEK" in connection with its 2nd LCHS Grand Alumni Homecoming. I would therefore like to suggest that we stick
to the first week of July as our regular homecoming dates and not keep
on changing.

All Souls Day Encounters
GRAND
BIRTHDAY BASH. All set to mark her 70th birthday with
a big bang this week is Evelyn "Bee Ling" Sy-Wee (Batch '55), in
photo. The grand celebration, set in Manila, is expected to be
attended by all her siblings, among them Pearly "Pek Lee" Sy-Ong, Richard
Sy, Sy Beng Gui, and Leoncia Sy. Other family members and friends
are likewise flying to Manila to grace the occasion. Evelyn belongs to
Batch '55. Among her batch mates are Christopher Chua Teck An,
Loreta
Co, Dy Shik Din, Alita "Chiao Hua" Dy, Leonardo Go,
Ngo
Pek Sing; Cresencio Tan, Matthew Uy, Alim Yap-Tiu, and
Asim
Yap-Lim. Evelyn was among those who attended the first LCHS grand alumni
homecoming in 2000.
ALL SOULS DAY ENCOUNTERS. Occasions like All Saints Day and All Souls Day often give us the chance to meet fellow alumni we haven't seen for a long while. It's during these two days of November that we could see alumni trooping to the cemetery and memorial parks bringing along flowers, foodstuffs, candles and incense for their departed love ones. Occasions like this come only once a year and offer a good opportunity for meeting old friends and school mates.
Last Nov. 2, I chanced upon one of our long lost alumni together with his family at the Iligan Chinese Cemetery. He was talking with the Ang sisters, Linda "Denden" Ang (Batch '59) and Joselyn "Angkaw" Ang (Batch '67). This fellow alumnus has not surfaced in Iligan for many years. In fact his mother died last August yet no such info ever reached our office. He hails from Biga, Lugait, Misamis Oriental. His name is Henry Lim (Batch '71), in photo hereunder. His other siblings are Elvira (Batch '75), a practicing dentist in Cagayan de Oro; Edwina (Batch '75), a nutritionist; Eloisa (Batch '76), now a resident of Ormoc City; May (Batch '80), and Leo (Batch '82). Their old folks are our family friends. Our family often visited them in their town during the '60s. They had a hardware store, Iligan Capitol Trading, along Gen. Aguinaldo St., not far away from Pacing's Grocery, El Bonito, and Dy Cham Shoe Store. Henry Lim now lives in San Francisco, Agusan, with his wife Mila Yap-Lim and their children: Kent, 20; Aiza, 19; Daryl, 18; Emerald, 18; and Henny Jr., 13. He is into hardware and construction business, HECOM Hardware & Construction Supply. I have his cellphone number. Alumni who wish to reach him may contact me. The chance encounter also enabled me to remind Henry and his family about the forthcoming 3rd GAH in May 2008. The date, however, is being raised for further discussion.
My visit to the Chinese cemetery has not been very fruitful in meeting many of our fellow alumni, batch mates, schoolmates and friends who came home for the occasion. I only met Ursula Bernardo (Batch '63) together with her sister, Perla (Batch '60). Some alumni breezed into town earlier, between April and September. Unfortunately, they were too shy to be interviewed or have their picture taken. They preferred to remain silent and incognito while in town. Too bad, they could have filled this corner with more juicy news unta.
BACK HOME. Jesus "Hesing" Dy (Batch '63) and wife Melania arrived back in Cebu from Edmonton, Canada last Oct. 26. They have a residential house at the posh Pacific Grand Villa in Mactan, Cebu. Just before their return the Cebu, Hesing and Melania went on a tour of Turkey where they visited the many ancient and historic attractions in Istanbul and other cities. Hesing is currently vacationing in hometown Iligan.

Aging Is When ...
... you start thinking that time is a great healer,
but it's a lousy beautician.
... you start thinking that wisdom comes with
age, but sometimes age comes alone.
... you start to be more religious, spiritual
and prayerful than ever before in your whole life.
... things start to wear out, fall out, or spread
out.
... you stop growing at both ends, and have begun
to grow in the middle.
... the girls at the office start confiding in
you.
... your work is a lot less fun, and fun is a
lot more work.
... you know all the answers but nobody bothers
to ask you the questions.
... you dial a friend and when he answers you
after 30 minutes or so, you ask "Who's this?"
... your friend tells you "This is George".
And you answer "Oh, George. What is it that I wanted to tell you?"
or worst, "Why did you call?"
... you follow the "Early to bed, early to
rise" schedule. So you sleep at 9:00 p.m. and wake up at 2:00 a.m.
and can't remember what to do.
... you read the newspaper from a distance, with
wrinkled forehead and half-closed eyes.
... you forgot where you place your eyeglasses
and the whole house staff go crazy looking for it, only to find it inside
your cabinet.
... you find it hard to put on your socks sitting
down.
... you fall down and you wonder what else you
can do while you're down there.
... Climbing stairs would make your nose flare
up and leave you panting.
... you don’t give a damn to what people say,
so you go ahead and scratch where the itch is, even in public places.
... you rest your head on your pillow and find
out some saliva stains in the morning.
... you talk to your friend using the cellphone,
and people look at you.
... you watch TV and you become teary-eyed even
if the show is not a tear jerker drama.
... you wake up from your sleep every two to
three hours to urinate and to drink water.
... you know that there are three signs of aging.
The first is your loss of memory. And the second and third... you cannot
remember.
