Amateur Geologists' web-ring
What is a web-ring? It is a group of web-sites about similar topics. In this case the web-sites are about rocks, minerals and fossils. People within the ring put a link (called a navigation bar) on their web-site, which leads to other sites within the ring.
This web-ring was started in December 2000.
Here is some information about joining the web-ring.
The web-ring is for individual amateur geologists or societies and clubs for amateur geologists, with web sites. Members of the ring are asked to keep to the conditions of membership.
You may have to get a "Yahoo sign-in" name to be able to join, but that is not difficult:- you will have to select a user name and password; please enter you usual e-mail address when you register so that you can receive mail from the web-ring. Please remember that sign-in name and password because you will need it when you log on in the future. You can also add some personal details and interests to your Yahoo profile, if you wish. Please note that your password will not be seen by the web-ring manager or other members.
Go to the Amateur Geologists' Web-ring "hub" and click on the "Join This Ring" button to submit to your web site. And then fill out the form with your URL, the name of your web-site and a description of the site. Please do this very carefully *, especially type the URL correctly (or even paste it in) or else the link will not work. This information will then be sent to me and I will add your web site to the web-ring. You will then get a message from me to say that your site has been added.
Once you have joined please add the navigation bar to the web-page you registered as the link from the web-ring. If you have trouble doing it please e-mail me for more details. If you do not do this you may be removed from the ring.
Membership of the web-ring will bring more people to your site when they are browsing similar sites; you are asked to return the favour by pasting the navigation bar in to your site.
Please let me know how you get on. This is a new adventure for me, so let me know if you have problems or can offer advice.
Best wishes, Mike
* You can edit your URL and description later by going to Yahoo --> my rings --> edit --> manage site.
