Memorial Park
The following names appear on the World War I honor roll plaque located at the base of the flagpole in Memorial park. The park is located on Stevens Point’s south side just north of the Business 51 underpass and the railroad depot. The plaque and flagpole was dedicated July 6, 1923 at its present location through the efforts of the Stevens Point Woman’s Club. Stevens Point native, Rear Admiral Albert W. Grant, U.S. Navy was the featured speaker. There is a similar plaque in the County-City building with three additional names listed on it based on Wisconsin’s Gold Star List, which lists the persons from their county of residence. The Memorial Park plaque includes names of county residents who may have enlisted in another community and official military records would show that community for residence.
