Spike - James Marsters - According to rumours, James Marsters originally auditioned for the role of Angel. - He was one of three actors called in to audition for the role of Spike opposite Juliet Landau. - Juliet Landau says that there was an instant trust between the two of them which made it impossible for anyone else to be cast as Spike. - The part of their first scene in 'School Hard' where Spike & Drusilla roll their heads towards the camera evolved naturally in auditions. - James Marsters auditioned for the role using a Southern accent to start with, as that it what he thought Cockney meant. - The scar atop James' left eye was gained after a mugging incident. - James Marsters burnt his hand during the filming of 'Lover's Walk'. He had convinced Joss Whedon to let James do the sun-burning stunt himself, and was too embarrased to tell anyone about his injuries. - Spike was originally supposed to be killed off in 'Innocence' by Angel as his first act as a souless vampire, but the character was too greatly loved by the show's writers. Drusilla - Juliet Landau - Juliet Landau never auditioned for the role of Drusilla. She was hired after attending a meeting with Joss Whedon and several others, after her work in the Tim Burton film Ed Wood was seen. - The heart Angel got for Dru in the Buffy episode 'Bewitched, Bothered, & Bewildered' was a goat's heart, which Juliet Landau wasn't rerribly enthused about, yet still had to pretend to be in the scene. - Juliet Landau was responsible for developing Drusilla's cringe as well as her bobbing dance/jitter. - Juliet Landau was supposed to be in the third season Buffy episode 'Lover's Walk', but was unavailble. - In the scene from 'School Hard' where Drusilla licks blood from Spike's face, you can see the tube running up the side of Juliet's finger which administered the blood to James Marsters' face. - Juliet is a trained ballerina. - Her father is Academy Award winner Martin Landau (won Best Supporting Actor in 1994 for Ed Wood, in which Juliet also starred). |
