Angelus. The one with the angelic face. His human self was called Liam. He was born in 1727, in Galway Ireland. Liam spent most of his time being drunk, chasing women and avoiding work of any kind. But in 1753 he stumbled drunk out of a tavern and met Darla. He died that night. When fresh out of the grave he went home, knowing that he was dead, his sister thought he had returned to them, as an angel. He took great pleasure in killing his family, he and Darla made quite a reputation for themselves. Angelus became known as the Scourge of Europe, killing where and when he wanted. He would leave his mark; a Christian cross cut into their flesh.
In 1860 Darla pointed out a family with three daughters, especially one in particular. Darla told him that she had the sight.Angelus became obsessed with this girl. She was Drusilla . Angelus killed her family and he drove her insane, thought of every mental torture to inflict upon her. She ran to the church, joined a convent, on the day she was to take her holy orders, he made her a vampire.
Angelus was doing quite well by now, travelling Europe with Darla, Drusilla and Spike. However in 1898 he killed a gypsy girl, sacred to her people. His punishment was the return of his soul. Now able to remember all the pain he had inflicted, he changed. Darla, after 150 years with Angelus was disgusted by his behaviour, so she threw him out.
A 90 years or so later he was in Sunnydale, and in love with the Slayer. Darla tried to kill Buffy so he killed her first. Sex saw the return of Angelus, and his renewed alliance with Drusilla and Spike. Intent on destroying the world, Buffy was forced to send him to hell, but not before Willow could restore his soul again.
When falling back to earth from hell, his soul is restored. He and Buffy part, knowing that their love is what has to keep them apart.
Angel leaves for L.A. to start a new career and a new life, as Angel and not Angelus.
A few years later sees the return of Angel's Dark Side, when Team Angel realise they need him to tell them how to destroy The Beast, an unbelievably strong demon who has blotted out the sun. Using a shaman to remove Angel's soul and putting in a jar, Angelus awakes locked in a cage and questionned about his previous experiences with The Beast. Taunting and teasing, Angelus reveals a few painful secrets to the group, wounding them emotionally. Released from his prison by a seemingly evil Cordelia, Angelus goes out in search of blood. Since the lack of sun has brought out all the vampires and demons that stalk the night, there was scarcely a fresh human to be found. Disappointed, Angelus returned to the one sure thing he had; the hotel. Once there he attacks Cordelia and bites Lilah, seemingly killing her. He then jumps through the window escaping.
Wesley seeks help with the only person he knows who can capture Angelus, not kill him. He goes to Faith, who is still in jail, when he tells her it's Angelus, she breaks out and joins Wesley and the others. Proceeding to Hunt Angelus, Faith rallys the group. Meanwhile Angelus is hearing voices in his head from the Master of The Beast. It wants Angelus to join him, Angelus refuses of course, saying he works alone, but the voice tells him that he has Angelus's soul and he'll put it back if he doesn't behave. Reluctantly agreeing, Angelus co-operates, luring Faith into a warehouse where he and The Beast are waiting for her. They fight and Angelus kills the Beast, bringing back the sun. He moves in for the kill, but Faith saves herself by smashing the window. His next encounter with Faith leads to a big fight where they almost kill each other, Angelus seemingly has won when he bites Faith, but then he passes out. Faith had taken a mystical drug before fighting with Angelus and now both of them were inside Angel's memories. Reliving Angel's good deeds and his bad ones, both Faith and Angelus could only watch. Angelus, disgusted by his good sides humanity could only cringe as he watched Angel save a puppy from being run over. As the drug took more of a hold, Angelus became stronger in this dream world, strong enough to even fight his alter-ego. Meanwhile, back in the real world, Fred had called in the only living person to ever restore Angel's soul, Willow turns up to help out. Evil Cordelia alarmed at this news begins to counter Willow's spells, refusing to let her destroy the jar that holds Angel's soul. However, distracted by Connor, the jar breaks, allowing Willow to complete her spells. Angel's soul is returned. In the dream world Angelus is sucked back inside Angel, Angel wakes up, back in the cage.
Angelus has been put back in his box, possibly for good this time. But it was fun while it lasted! |
