Chapter 322: Ask me again how I feel when I’m done with this beer…

Video taken by the Ice Champions Unite Tour documentary crew—Portions cut from documentary but to be saved for separate release—December 27, 2002

Handwritten Note attached to film footage—

Setting: Hotel bar, 11:00 P.M.

Subjects being filmed: Set was meant to be footage of the skaters enjoying late drinks in the bar, perhaps late snacks, joking and bonding. Focus was meant to be on skaters Jamie Sale and David Pelletier. The ensuing footage is too sensitive for family viewing but just clean enough that with some good humor perhaps it could be included in something other than a Christmas gag reel? Tell me your thoughts! *heartheart*

Camera follows skaters Jamie Sale and David Pelletier as they leave their hotel room and go to the hotel bar. Both are dressed casually, sleepy eyed, disheveled.

Jamie looks at camera, smiling: We’re sleeeepy! Sleepy sleepy! SLEEEEPY! We should be in bed we got a show tomorrow aye?

David pushes Jamie playfully: No not tomorrow there’s a hockey game tomorrow we just have practice, we can stay up late tonight.

Jamie rolls her eyes and points at him.

Jamie: Mr. Hockey over there knows everything. Ookay we got just practice tomorrow. I’m sleeeepy!

David: We can go to bed after we have some drinks, you’re so anti-social.

Jamie stops walking and puts her hands on her hips: I am not!

David looks at her and pinches her cheeks: Yes you are, everytime it gets late you never like to go have a little fun. Don’t be afraid to have a beer yes?

Jamie: Well I’ve been stressed out all week okay I haven’t exactly been Miss Mary Sunshine okay? And I will have a beer but low carb, you know I can’t be consuming all those calories David.

David: What’s a few calories eh?

Jamie: Yeah you complain if I even gain half an ounce you loser.

Jamie walks more swiftly away and David grimaces, grins and looks at camera.

David: She loves me she really loves me yes? She just shows it weird.

Cameras follow the pair into the bar where they’re greeted by their fellow skaters, who are scattered around the room, milling at the bar and the younger ones are collected together at a table. David is greeted by Russian skaters Alexei Yagudin and Yevgeny Plushenko. Jamie waves at Michelle Kwan, Irina Slutskaya and Sasha Cohen, all three girls holding onto energy shakes.

Jamie greets the girls.

Jamie: Hi there!

Girls squeal: Hi Jamie!

Jamie: What ya drinking there aye?

Michelle Kwan holds up a glass.

Michelle: We need protein.

The other girls nod eagerly.

Jamie: Have you tried that fruit soup stuff they serve here?

Irina: Yeah it’s really good.

Sasha: And no fat at all!

Jamie laughs. And how are ya doing Michelle you seem like you’re in a good mood.

Michelle gives a thumbs up and sticks out her tongue playfully.

Jamie then goes to the bar where she orders a beer and crosses her arms. She looks at the camera.

Jamie: Michelle’s, (Kwan) in a good mood a real good mood you know. It’s cause she’s dating a hockey player on one of these teams you know? She doesn’t get to see him a lot so she gets excited when she can actually spend some time with him. She’ll see him tomorrow.—Jamie shakes her head—She gets real confused with me sometimes. When I get frustrated with David, Michelle can’t understand that, how even if you love someone you can still want to rip his head off. Well, she’ll learn. She doesn’t have to spend all the time with her man, you know? It’s almost better for her in a way because she can always anticipate his presence. But you know with me, well if we get sore with each other, I can’t just walk out and deal you know? I still have to perform and practice with him.

Jamie swigs some beer and is joined by David who rubs his hands swiftly together.

David: Feeling loose eh?

Jamie: Sure so loose I could go to sleep right where I’m standing.

David laughs and leans against the bar. He looks around.

David: Hey there are hockey players here.

Jamie: Brilliant Sherlock, they’re staying in our hotel you know.

David: Are you still mad at me because of yesterday when I…..

Jamie: I don’t want to talk about it okay?

David: Those are hockey players, that’s Patrick Roy and Alex Tanguay, and Joe Sakic, and there’s some more of the guys over there.

Camera cuts to a shot of the hockey players having drinks.

Jamie: Yup.

David: Come on I said I was sorry….

Jamie: I know.

David: Look I promise I’ll never make a comment again on those glasses I was just….

Jamie: Ask me again how I feel when I’m done with this beer okay? It’ll be better.

David sighs and walks away from Jamie after kissing her on the cheek; she does not allow him to kiss her mouth. Jamie shakes her head and looks at camera briefly.

Jamie: Okay so you guys think I’m being a baby now but he has no right to tease people like that, you know? Maybe it’s his French witty thing but sometimes I just don’t like being teased, especially about my looks. I spent a long time picking out those glasses and one comment from him ruins it all. Look at him now, he’s mad at me, he thinks I’m being a baby. Fine I don’t care. He’s leaving now. Fine he can go to bed.

Jamie faces the bar and sits down leaning forward and pressing her chin into her palm. She blows a flick of hair from her face.

Jamie: I miss David. He thinks I hate him now and his feelings are hurt.

She stands up again and looks across the room.

Jamie: He likes those hockey players; I don’t think he has their autographs.

She smiles and beckons to the cameras.

Jamie: Come on. He’ll love this, as usual I’m the one who has to make the peace offerings but it’s cool. I love him; this’ll patch things up quite nicely. Hey do any of you camera guys have a pen?
