Paligsahan sa Awit
An Amateur singing contest open to all residents of Calasiao. This project was first introduced to the SPPPC by Rev. Fr. Joseph M. Visperas, our Parochial Vicar that time. The SPPPC's willingness to do something for the townspeople of Calasiao enthusiastically motivated each member to conceptualize the project proposal. A core group formed to head the Paligsahan sa Awit project, together with our Choir Directress Madam Salome Onofre, set an appointment with the Municipal Mayor of Calasiao Hon. Mayor Camelito Sison, to ask for financial assistance to fund the project. Mayor Sison did not hesitate to involve his Office together with the Sangguniang Bayan ng Calasiao to work hand in hand with the SPPPC in this endeavor.
On the last Saturday of October 1991, the first Paligsahan sa Awit was launched at the Calasiao Town Plaza. it has become a Saturday Night Affair, that a great number of people from nearby barangays come and watch the show especially if there is a "ka-Barangay" set as a contestant that night. The Grand Finals has also become a much awaited moot event for the Christmas Season in Calasiao.
Feeling the monotony and scarcity of contestants joining the contest for the past four years, we changed the annual event to "Search for Little Miss Calasiao '95. The search, which showcases the beauty, talent and wit of young children of Calasiao went on for two years. It is nice to remember the cute little girls dancing to the tune of "Macarena" that was so popular that time.
Considering the clamor of the townspeople of Calasiao, we then brought back the original Paligsahan sa Awit in October 1997.
Realizing the joy and the spirit of Christmas which the project gives to the people of Calasiao during the Yuletide Season, that also compensates to the great effort and sacrifices of the SPPPC for the project, the support of the Office of the Mayor and the Sangguniang Bayan ng Calasiao continued even with the change in administration from mayor Camelito Sison to Mayor Felipe De Vera, Jr., then to Mayor Roy T. Macanlalay.
Last year, Board member Romeo Dadacay sponsored the additional portion of the Paligsahan sa Awit 2002, which is the Paligsahan sa Sayaw 2002. A good number of young children and young adults formed their own groups to join the contest. the Grand Finals was made more exciting with the colorful costumes of the Grand Finalists of the Paligsahan sa Sayaw, gyrating to the tune of the popular dance songs and steps of the Sexbomb Dancers.
This year, we retain both portions, the Paligsahan sa Awit and Paligsahan sa Sayaw 2003.
