Train Table #2 - Construction details
This is the second one I built, with many improvements over table #1
This one is for my nephew & niece Jesse & Samantha.  It is made of 3/4" Red oak sides and legs.  The Top is 3/4" MDF with a 1/4" white topped hardboard glued to the MDF.  It has wooden slides to hold 2 plastic bins to store stuff in under the table.  It was finished with 2 coats of brushed on McCloskey's Satin Varnish.
Follow along for construction details:
The sides are 3 1/2" Wide.  There is a 1" wide, 3/8" deep dado about halfway down the inside face of the side to hold the top in place.
The corners of the sides are mitered, I used the table saw with the blade titled to 45 degrees.
After carefully measuring each side to make sure they all fit, I glued up the sides with the top in place.
The legs were next.  They are 2 pieces of 3 1/2" x 3/4" x 19" red oak mitered along the long side to make an L shaped leg.  I put a 3x3 block at the top of the leg to aid in attaching them to the table.  I attached the legs to the top with pocket screws and a screw through the 3x3 block.
The runners for the storage bins are a 2x4 with a piece of MDF screwed into it to from to "L" shaped pieces for the right and left supports and a "T" shaped piece for the middle support.  They were spaced apart, the width of the containers.  The runners were attached to the underside of the table top with pocket screws.
The legs were attached with pocket screws into the table top, one on each half of the leg.  An another screw was placed through the 3x3 square into the top.
