Departed Fremantle . Escorted through the safe zone by HMS WILLIAMS. Fire Control Party worked continuous firing
solutions on the HMS WILLIAMS until the HMS WILLIAMS was at released at 17:30.

05-57’N, 120-50’E Entered Patrol Zone JAVA SEA area 1 and 2. Moderate seas and Overcast. Plan to patrol the shipping lanes between
Pandang and Surabaya.

06-07’N, 117-37’E. SJ and Visual
contact with a 2 DD patrolling Makasar Strait.
Contact radioed in next day.
RMKS/ 4. 11 December 1942 06:09 06-07’N, 117-37’E. SJ contact. Visual contact at 06:25 1 Tanker, 2 Small Freighters and two escorts. Worked into position on the surface and submerged ahead of convoy. Fired #7, 8, and 9 aft torpedoes set at 12’ (Draft 18) offset 0, 1, -1, range 950 at 06:11. Torpedo #1 hit sinking the target. Dived and maneuvered for an ASW attack.

hits above aft torpedo room and fire in officer’s country. Sealed aft torpedo room. Maintaining depth control to 280…….losing
depth control, all ahead standard bow planes up 2 D……no response from bow
diving planes…all ahead flank, …pumps losing ground, blow emergency
