18 January 1944 17:22 37-18’N, 124-36’E Entered Patrol Zone Yellow Sea Sector YS-2.  Moderate seas and partly cloudy.  Plan to patrol the shipping lanes between Inchon and the Port Arthur. Due to extremely shallow depth of the patrol area, Greenling plans to work submerged during the day and concentrate on Night Surface attacks.

 

18 January 1944 21:06 SJ RADAR contact 4 ships in a convoy Speed 3 Knots, Range 29000 Yards, course 100 True. Pursuing contact on radar bearing.

 

18 January 1944 21:27 Visual contact with ships, SHIPs 1-3  (3 Sampans).  Assumed the sampans were Korean, so steered away.

 

18 January 1944 23:21 SJ RADAR contact 7-9 ships in a convoy Speed 6 Knots, Range 31000 Yards, course 100 True. Pursuing contact on radar bearing.

19 January 1944 02:59 Fired tube 7 at 2700 yards at adjusted keel depth (10’ on 13’ draft) with offset of 0 at SHIP 8.
