This guide is for incoming cadets, basic cadets and any other newbie who needs to pass their first few PRB's (promotion review boards) and for cadets trying to become NCO's. | |||||||||||||||||
Incoming Cadets | |||||||||||||||||
So you want to join the Civil Air Patrol? Prepare to be in a cadet program unlike any other in its class. Civil Air Patrol will test your will to succeed, your problem solving skills, and your teamwork skills. Our program can also give you the opportunities to gain skills ranging from Pilot Training to Ground Search and Rescue skills to Survival Training and to go abroad and be a cadet in another country with I.A.C.E. ( International Air Cadet Exchange). First things first. You need to go to a squadron in your area and talk with a Senior member (the adults in Civil Air Patrol) or a cadet about joining the program. When you talk to the Deputy Commander for Cadets or the Commander for Cadets, which are both senior members, you will review the program, have one or two meetings filled with information on summer activities and programs such as encampment. Encampment is 8 days long, and recommended for all cadets. It is a lot of fun! If you are still interested about joining you will probably be invited to come watch the cadets conduct their activities during a meeting and ask questions of a Cadet NCO. If you wish to join, the Deputy Commander for Cadets will give you a form to join the Civil Air Patrol. Civil Air Patrol does ask for a $35.00 administrative fee for the national level. Once your paperwork reaches CAP Headquarters on Maxwell Airforce Base, Alabama, you will receive your books and membership card. Once you receive these you also receive the title of Cadet Airmen Basic and can now officially attend activities, encampments and summer programs. |
