"Help Out SqueakyLand Campaign"

***Looking for Classic TV Fan Fiction? Go here.***

You are probably wondering what the heck the "Help Out SqueakyLand Campaign" is. Well, it's all about me begging all of you to send me classic tv and classic movies fan fiction to my site Take Me to SqueakyLand. And also I'm pretending to know a big deal about what fan fiction is all about and how to write a story. So don't take it all too seriously.

Oh, did I remembered to say that I beg an awful lot?

Where's my dignity you say? I have none left whatsoever. It's not really that bad... Oh IT IS!!! (sniff) But on a happier note: it's working! A few people have sent me their stories. Maybe because of this campaign or maybe not (but I'll pretend it's because of this campaign, he he...)

I will take this opportunity to thank all the writers that contributed to the Laverne and Shirley Fan Fiction page. The dream was realized, and enough stories have been archived to stop receiving submissions for Laverne and Shirley stories.

BUT...

What about other Classic TV and Classic Movies stories?

"What kind of stories can I send to Squeakyland?"

  • The nature of Squeakyland is Classic TV or Classic Movies. That is, movies and shows from early 80's and older.

  • Whether it's humor, romance, song parodies, action, angst, drama, mystery, it doesn't matter. BUT:

  • Don't send stories with strong adult situations. I won't accept them. Let's face it, this site isn't for pre-schoolers, but if a 10 year-old happens to find your story, how will you explain to his mother the existentialist value of "The Honeymooners go to the nudie bar".

  • If you like to write your stories in more than one chapter, it's okay, but keep the number of chapters to a minimum. (No 30 chapter stories, etc.)

"I want to write a story, but I'm stuck! How do I get started?"

The possibilitites of what you can create in your work are endless. If the show you choose is a comedy you can give your story a dramatic twist and viceversa.

I know it's hard sometimes to come up with a theme and you may get stuck and not know just what you should write about. What I do is that I divide the show into categories.

For example: I want to write a Happy Days Fan Fic.

  • I begin by dividing it into Humor or Drama or Mystery, etc.

  • Let's say you chose comedy. Who are the principal characters? I choose a comedy between Ralph and Potsie.

  • Then choose a place. I'm gonna go for a deserted island. (At this moment I know you must be going like "DUH!" how does she think stories are actually written? My point is just don't think much. Think up this simple things randomly, quickly. Start thinking and analyzing once the writing process has actually begun.)

  • You can start thinking of more random things. The best ones are the ones that just pop out from your head. In this story someone will get hit on the head with and object, someone gets lost, some sort of an animal that scares them will appear and so on.

  • Write everything down on a paper pad for later reference.

  • Now add up all those elements together:
Ralph Malph and Potsie getting stuck on a desserted island. They get in a fight and separate. Potsie gets lost while Ralph gets hit on the head with bananas thrown by a monkey. They reunite, but the monkey follows them around and they believe the monkey is on a mission to kill them when in fact Potsie has a bag of peanuts in his pocket. Having starved for days, Ralph almost strangles his friend for not telling him he had food. In the end, the Fonz, as always, comes to the rescue.

Eh, sounds kinda nice. Well, good writing takes practice anyway.

"Hooray! I've written a story! What do I do now?"

If you are about to send me a story :::getting down on my knees::: Thank You!

  • Please send your story in plain text (.txt) or .html format. Or you can paste them on an e-mail and send them to me. If it's a long story send me a couple of e-mails with the story divided in parts. I'll still post it as a whole.

  • Make a brief synopsis of the story of a line or two for me to put on the page. If you don't send one I'll just put the title of the story. (And that would be reeeeeally boring, wouldn't it?)

  • Send your stories to me: Squeaky and if you have any questions, do not hesitate in dropping me a line.
