Working the Polls
11/2005 Tuesday, I worked the polls and that was one of the highlight days of my life! Certainly in my top 10. I highly recommend that every American do it at least once in his or her lifetime. No one has to tell you how much rancor and hatred this campaign has spewed into the airwaves and the ethernet... how much unnecessary upset and stress it added to all of our lives. And no matter who we wanted to win in any category, unless you never turned on an electronic communication device, it was pretty hard to be insulated from it. At the polling place, I was in an insulated world. A wonderful place (and my eyes fill up every single time I go back into the memory) filled with Americans just being Americans; exercising our right to choose. All of the upset I'd been barraged with over the last few months fell away, and all that was left was the peace and pure joy of sharing these moments with "ma fella 'mericans." Being shut off from the outside world in that way was like being in a church-like environment dedicated to the God of Freedom. It left me with a "knowing" that America is okay -- that all the external noise from people that were using our electoral process for their own (good, bad, or indifferent) agendas really doesn't make any difference. America
is a living, breathing concept, deep within us all, God
Bless America!!!!! |
