Security Report by Bob Miller

January was an unusually busy month for law enforcement personnel working in Harris County. The following is a summary of the activity in our Subdivision that required a written police report.

(1) A criminal mischief occurred on Green Candle when an unknown suspect(s) damaged the complainant's property with a BB gun. (2) A known juvenile was found to be in possession of drug paraphernalia in the woods near the clubhouse. A citation was issued that will require the suspect to appear in court with a parent. (3) A complainant on Candleridge alleged that a known suspect entered the family residence without consent. Charges were filed against said individual for criminal trespass and an arrest has been made in that case. A disposition is pending. (4) A possible known suspect is alleged to have entered an open garage on Flaming Candle and real property was stolen from within. (5) A known juvenile left the family residence on Candleoak without parental consent and was deemed to be a runaway. And, (6) a complainant on Candleview alleged that his vehicle was mistakenly repossessed and certain items of value were taken from within without his consent. A possible suspect has been identified. Lastly, a house fire occurred on Candlelon. The homeowner apparently suffered a near total loss and I would like to extend my sincerest sympathy to that family.

I have been advised by the Constable's Office and the Sheriff's Department that criminal activity has increased steadily in the vicinity of Cypresswood Drive and I-45. Reports indicate that drug activity, robberies, burglaries, thefts, among others, have occurred. There has been a marked increase in the traffic congestion as well. I have a concern that some of this unwelcome activity could spill over into our neighborhood at some point in the coming months. Consequently, I have asked the Constable's Office to increase their nighttime patrols and have been assured this will be done.

If you see anything out of the ordinary, please do not hesitate to contact the Precinct Four Constable's Office at (281) 376-3472. Watch Words For The Month: Stay Alert Stay Safe.

I have also received a number of phone calls from individuals who are deeply disturbed about the juvenile misdeeds that have been taking place in our community. A number of those events have been directly attributable to the lack of adequate parental supervision. Some say it is "cool" to sneak out of the house after their parents have gone to bed and prowl the streets with one's friends. Several years ago, a teenager who resided in Candlelight Hills climbed out a second story window late one night, lost his footing and fell to his death. In order to prevent this kind of tragedy from occurring in your family, I urge all parents to keep track of who their offspring associate with and their children's activities. Just remember, underage children who violate the curfew laws could end up with an unwanted trip to the courthouse. [02/13/02] :)
