WHAT IS AN OCCUPATIONAL DISEASE?

 

          When you get certain disease or disorder because of the nature of your work, they are called occupational disease. For example, if you are exposure to loud industrial machinery or for long periods, you may suffer a loss of hearing.

 

THESE WORKPLACE CAN CAUSE AN OCCUPATIONAL DISEASE

*      Dust, gases or femus

*      Noise

*      Toxics substance (poisons)

*      Vibration

*      Radiation

*      Infection germ or viruses

*      Extreme hot or cold temperature

*      Extreme high or low pressure

*      Hearing disorder

*      Arthritis

*      Allergies

*      Bronchitis

*      Giardia Lamblia Infection

*      Lyme disease

  

 WORKPLACE HEALTH HAZARDS CAN CAUSE 3 KIND OF REACTION

 

1)    IMMEDIATE OR ACUTE REACTION

*      Like shortness of breath or nausea.

*      These reactions are not usually permanent.

 

2)    GRADUAL REACTION

*      Like asthma or dermatitis.

*      Can get worse and persist when you exposed over days.

*      Tend to last to a longer time.

 

3)    DELAYED REACTION

*      Like lung cancer or loss of hearing.

*      Can be noticed long after the job is over.

*      Take long time to develop.

  

TIPS TO AVOIDS AN OCCUPATIONAL DISEASE

 

*      Find out what materials and substances are being used in your workplace.

*      Find out how to work safely around materials and equipment in your workplace.

*      Use protective equipment provided by your employer.

*      Be alert to symptoms or changes in your health.

*      Tell your doctor, where your work? What do you do? What substance you work with.

 

KEEP RECORD

 

*      Keep a list of all the jobs and industries that you have worked for. It will help if you needed to file an occupational disease claim.
