The Prototype

Darkness. She was staring into a void of darkness. The only sounds were the constant hum of the engine and the occasional blip of the computer. Moments before, bounty hunter Samus Aran was contacted by the Galactic Space Federation. A mission classified as highly dangerous was assigned to her. An evil sorcerer had escaped from the exile he was banished to only seven years before. He is a Hyrulian man from the region of Gerudo by the name of Ganondorf. The hero who had imprisoned him had been guided into a foolish mistake. He took the Master Sword from the Temple of Time, which flung him seven years into the future so he could fight the evil sorcerer. However, this time travel did not come without repercussions. Because the balance of time and space was disturbed, the seven-year time travel sent out portals that would appear every seven years where the Temple of Time’s magic was strongest. And because the hero, Link, took the Master Sword from the Temple of Time, and he used the Master Sword to seal Ganondorf into banishment, the magic shed from the Master Sword allowed a portal to appear in the void of Ganondorf’s exile. The evil sorcerer then used this portal to escape, and it was now Samus’s job to search and destroy.

She was now in her gunship staring into a starless field of space. A glint of light caught her eye. Computer coordinates showed it traveling at enormous speed and heading straight for her. Before she could do anything there was a loud crash and the two collided. She did a system analysis to show that there was no damage, but the analysis did show some abnormal weight toward the back of the ship. Whatever had crashed into her had grabbed on to the ship also. Samus landed on a nearby space station to check out what it was. As she emerged from the gunship, she saw no immediate threat. She ventured a little farther and saw what appeared to be a pink fluff ball.

"Hi!" it said cheerfully to her.

"What are you doing on my ship?" Samus replied. The expression of the fluff ball changed to that of a sad puppy. “Just stay at the space station. You’ll be safe here." The expression of the fluff ball did not change, and he still held to the gunship. "You can’t come with me." She picked up the fluff ball and set it on the space station ground. "Stay here."

With that, she went back to her space ship and flew away. Another system analysis still showed abnormal weight, but this was in the cargo area now. Samus glanced back at the space station where she left the fluff ball and saw that it was gone. It is probably the abnormal weight in the cargo area, she said to herself. Well, I’ll let it ride with me, but I’ll be ready for a surprise attack. With that, she powered up her charge beam and headed toward the land of Hyrule.

      ***

She knocked over a few trees as she landed. A bit sloppy, but I’ve had worse. She exited the gunship and carefully opened the cargo area. A loud growl enveloped her. She quickly used the grapple beam to pull out whatever it was into the light. It was, in fact, the little pink fluff ball… snoring.

Then she heard a shout and fire erupted before her. She turned around to see a man with blonde hair and pointed ears wearing a green tunic and holding a sword and shield in his hands. Next to him was a woman with blonde hair and similar ears wearing a pink gown. She was in a pose as if she had just cast a spell. They were whispering to each other. Samus could barely make out something like "Probably…Ganondorf’s servants".

Samus quickly turned to the fluff ball. "Okay, if you want to come with me, you need to help me fight these people. Do you have any battle experience at all?" Samus wouldn’t guess that a little pink fluff ball would, but it nodded its head vigorously. "Great, now what we need to do is…" but before Samus could finish, she was sucked up inside the pink fluff ball. Suddenly she was outside again and the fluff ball had her helmet on. Samus quickly reached for her face, but the helmet was still on. Then she saw that the fluff ball was powering up a charge beam, and she knew at once. This must be a warrior from Pop Star. She must have collided with it while it was traveling on its warp star. Suddenly an arrow whizzed past her face. She had almost forgotten about the two people trying to kill them.

Samus fired a missile straight at the man but he blocked with his shield. Then she noticed that the fluff ball was gone. She looked back at the two enemies and saw that the fluff ball was hovering above them, but they didn’t seem to notice. She dodged a boomerang, still looking at the Pop Star warrior. It suddenly turned into a rock and smashed down on the enemies. Now it was time for some real action. Samus charged at the man. He seemed ready to intercept so she tried a different approach. Just at the last second she changed into a morph ball. She could see some kind of hook and chain fly directly over her. When she was under the man’s legs she set a morph ball bomb. She stood up behind the man. For a few seconds he looked at her very confused and then the bomb exploded. He was taken aback for a few seconds and then quickly knocked an arrow. But a few seconds was enough. Samus was already behind him. She fired a fully charged beam right at his back. He started to fly some distance but Samus caught him with her grapple beam and threw him in the air. Before the man even knew what was going on, Samus performed a perfectly executed screw attack and sent him into even more pain. Suddenly when Samus thought him just to fall on the ground, he quickly stood up and spun with sword outstretched. This attack had caught her off guard but this would not happen again. She quickly recuperated and fired a missile directly at him. This time it hit its mark. The man stood up and hit Samus with a couple of sword swipes. She quickly jabbed at him with her arm cannon. The man did not seem to stand up.

Samus thought she would go and help the fluff ball. The fluff ball seemed pretty intense in battle. The woman didn’t seem like too much of a threat; one little shot from the charge beam should get rid of her. Samus charged the beam and fired. The Pop Star warrior looked back at the sound of the charge beam and shouted "NO!" but it was too late. Before the charge beam hit her, a blue diamond appeared around the woman. The charge beam changed direction as it hit the diamond. It hit Samus with a terrible force. Now she knew how her enemies felt. She gathered her thoughts and looked back where the woman was. The fluff ball charged at her enveloped in flame; suddenly, a green light spun around the woman and she disappeared. The fluff ball was left spinning in the mud. Samus then felt someone grab her from behind; though it was more of being sent into a trance then someone physically grabbing her. There was one sharp jolt of electricity and then Samus was sent flying into the air. Before she could do anything, the woman jumped beneath her and a trail of sparkles came from her hand; the sparkles soon gathered and right as Samus fell above them, they gave way to a huge explosion. As she fell back toward the ground, the woman looked as to repeat herself when Samus had an idea. She quickly lay into a morph ball and dropped a bomb. Before the woman could let loose the sparkles, the bomb made contact and exploded. Samus made it safely to the ground. The fluff ball was now standing next to her. He marched forward to fight the sorceress. As soon as the woman stood up, she was met by an enormous hammer that the fluff ball had swung.

Samus fired a missile. Soon after, the woman stood up and shouted, "Die, fiends of Ganondorf!" The woman let loose a small red orb. She was in a trance seeming to guide the orb and did not notice the missile heading straight for her. Samus quickly gathered what the sorceress said, rolled into a morph ball to dodge the orb, and shot a small burst of the power beam at the missile all in one smooth motion. The power beam made contact and detonated the missile before it could hit the woman. She could see the orb explode into flames behind her.

"STOP!" Samus yelled. The woman looked up.

"Why should I?" she said menacingly.

"Because we are not fiends of Ganondorf as you say we are. I am actually on my way to stop him."

"And why should I believe you?" the sorceress shot back.

      "Because…uh…um…"

"As I thought." She prepared to conjure a spell.

"WAIT!" said a new voice, the voice of the pink warrior. The fluff ball reached in his enormous mouth and took out two big tomatoes with the letter "M" on them. He handed them to the woman.

"Maximum tomatoes?" said the sorceress. "I suppose you could be friendly." She ate one of the tomatoes and seemed to liven up a bit. She rushed over to the man in green and fed one to him. He regained consciousness and seemed as to lunge at Samus but the woman held him still. "They’re friendly," she reassured him.

"They didn’t seem too friendly," he answered.

"It was all a big misunderstanding. They thought we were minions of Ganondorf," she told him. The man laughed a bit.

"Well, who are you then?" he inquired.

"I am Samus Aran, the bounty hunter, and this is… actually I never caught your name." Samus said directing the latter to the pink warrior.

      "Kirby!" said the fluff ball.

"And this is Kirby, a warrior from Pop Star."

"I am Link," said the man in green.

"And I am Princess Zelda," said the sorceress.

"Well then," said Samus casually, "let’s get a move on." She powered up her charge beam just in case something was to catch them by surprise.

"He was last spotted near the ruins of Hyrule Temple," stated Zelda. So they headed toward Hyrule Temple.

***

The temple was quiet and eerie. The only sounds were the footsteps of the travelers and the wind blowing through the columns of the temple. They moved through ever wary and careful not to fall in the holes in the floor.

"We’ve checked the whole temple; he’s not here," stated Link.

"He has to be here," Zelda said worriedly, "I can sense him."

"Well, I don’t see where he could b…" Link started as he stepped on a piece of unstable ground. The floor cracked and fell through and took Link with it.

"LINK!" shouted Zelda, "are you alright!"

"Yeah, I’m fine," muttered the slightly embarrassed Hyrulian.

"The lower chambers, I thought they had all been collapsed!" exclaimed Zelda. She hoisted herself down and the others followed.

"So this is where Ganondorf is hiding," Samus thought to out loud.

"Still, what’s left of the lower chambers isn’t much," stated Link. He looked around and saw that it was just a small piece of flat ground that leads to a small ramp. "Wait! I think I see something." Beyond the ramp was some pedestal of some sort and it looked like something was sitting on it. The others, they’re eyes still adjusting to the darkness, were straining to see what he was talking about.

"Congratulations, you’ve found me," said a deep voice, "but I don’t think you’ll like the reward very much." As he said this he jumped over them and punched Kirby as he jumped up through the hole. Kirby yelped and flew after him. Zelda teleported up as Samus and Link used their grappling devices to climb up.

They all came at him as once, but Kirby got there first. He sucked him up before Ganondorf could even blink. But once he got out again, he threw Kirby away to deal with the next opponent. That person happened to be Samus. When Samus first approached Ganondorf, she saw that he seemed to be getting ready to punch her as she came. Thinking quickly, she turned into a morph ball and rolled under his legs. When she stood up again, she saw that his fist was cloaked in purple magic. She then let loose the full fury of her charge beam. Ganondorf stumbled but quickly regained balance. He then charged at Samus and knocked her off her feet with a powerful, purple uppercut. Link came up next sword spinning. He pulled a bomb out, ignited it, and threw, waiting for the boom. He looked up and saw that the evil sorcerer had caught the bomb. He then threw it back hitting its mark and sending Link flying. His victory was shortened, however, by an eruption of fire that exploded against his back. He looked behind him but saw nothing. From the corner of his eye, he caught a green flash.

"Well, well, well if it isn’t the princess," but he didn’t have time to talk, Zelda had just used Naryu’s Love which send a diamond around her and then shattered knocking Ganondorf off balance. Then, suddenly, Ganondorf was cloaked in purple flame as he came charging at Zelda, foot outstretched. She quickly dodged the attack and began transforming into Sheik. She now had her face covered and was wearing tight blue and white clothing. She ran at him with tremendous speed and attacked him at the last second. He quickly recuperated and charged right back at Sheik. Suddenly, Sheik vanished into smoke only to appear several steps behind the evil wizard. As Ganondorf turned back around, he was met with a fleet of small needles followed by a few lashes from a chain. Sheik quickly turned back into Zelda.

"Your powers have progressed, young princess, but I daresay they are not good enough," mocked Ganondorf.

"I don’t need my powers to defeat you," said Zelda coolly.

      "And why is that?"

      "Because I have friends."

Once Ganondorf realized what she was talking about, it was already too late. Kirby had just unleashed the power he had stolen from Ganondorf. Ganondorf was sent flying into the air only to be met by a sword slash from Link and a fully charged power beam from Samus. He landed in some rubble. Samus confronted him. He attempted to grab her, but she jumped too soon for him, yet he had another idea. Samus attempted to drop a morph ball bomb on him but before she could, he jumped up with her, took a hold, and sent electricity coursing through her. He then put his feet against her and flipped off of the unexpecting bounty hunter. He landed with a smirk, but that didn’t last for long. He was struck with an arrow and joined by several slashes of a sword and a sword spin. He countered with a sharp jab of his elbow. Suddenly he heard a yell and what seemed to be a large rock crashed down upon him. The rock then transformed back into Kirby and he jumped high in the air with the cutter and slammed down yet again on the unfortunate Ganondorf. He heard the sound of missiles as Samus fired several at him. He dodged the first, but the second and third hit their mark. This was followed by the grapple beam, which flung him high in the air, right into some spell wrought-fire from Zelda. He landed hard on the ground enough to make Link and the others wonder if he’s unconscious. They ventured near him and had no time to counter when he kicked them in a cloak of purple flame. Samus and Kirby were knocked the farthest, well out of Ganondorf’s reach. So Samus took this time to charge up her power beam. When she was done, she allowed Kirby to swallow her and copy her power. He also charged up his power beam. Kirby slowly flew over Ganondorf and landed on a high pillar. He climbed his way down it making sure Ganondorf couldn’t see him. Meanwhile, Samus slowly sneaked her way behind Ganondorf. She glanced at Zelda and Link and saw the look of determination on their faces.

"NOW!" she yelled. Kirby jumped out from behind the pillar. He and Samus shot their charge beams at the same time. They both hit the evil wizard simultaneously. He writhed in pain and fell to his knees. Zelda took this opportunity and grabbed him but immediately let go with a look of shock on her face.

"What is it?" asked Link. Zelda just stood silent staring at Ganondorf. "What is it!?"

      "It’s him, he…he’s… he’s not…evil."

"What? How? Why?" The look on Link’s face was utter confusion.

"He’s just… not. When I grabbed him, I read him, his make up. He’s not evil."

"It’s true," said the weakened Ganondorf, "I am not evil. Ganon has fled from me. I am no longer evil."

"Then why did you fight us?" asked Link.

"If I would have told you that from the start, would you have believed me?" inquired Ganondorf.

      "No," said Link softly.

"I thought it easier to defend myself than to try to explain to an unwilling ear," Ganondorf stated, "If I had known the princess had the power to read people, well… it would have been a whole lot easier."

"Then why did the Galactic Space Federation say you were committing multiple crimes?" Samus interrogated.

"Ha! The Galactic Space Federation! They want me bound again just because I know too much. Didn’t you know? The Galactic Space Federation wants to become the Universal Space Domination!" he exclaimed. "They’re making a whole army of well… giant demons! They call them Giga-Bowsers. I believe they’re still working on the genetic enhancing. They probably only have a prototype so far."

      "You’re lying," Samus said.

"Am I? Why would I be lying? Zelda sensed no evil within me. I’m telling the truth!" he yelled.

"He’s right," Zelda stated, "He’s telling the truth." She was reading him again one hand upon his shoulder.

"Well then, how will we get to this Federation?" Link asked. A look of horror appeared on Ganondorf’s face.

"I forgot!" he exclaimed, "I found a listening device here yesterday. There might be many more. They probably listened in on us. That means…" His speech was cut short. A large space ship blocked out the sun, covering everything in darkness. Before they knew it, they were being pulled toward the ship. When they entered, they were each in a glass tube.

"So our pwecious wittle bounty hunter finally learned our wittle secwet," said a mocking voice.

"What do you think?" asked a different voice.

"Hmm, I’d say that the Gerudo is already much weakened," the first voice replied.

"So, what should their punishment be?" asked the second voice.

"I don’t know. Wire frames good enough for you?" answered the first voice.

      "Sure," said the second.

"Computer, teleport to Battlefield. Send in the wire frames."

Samus watched in anger. It was the only thing she could do. Soon after, she felt a tingling sensation, as she was being teleported to this "Battlefield". The world changed around her. She found herself free of the glass tubes along with Zelda, Link, Ganondorf, and Kirby. They were on a fairly large platform hovering in the middle of nowhere, literally. There were three other, smaller platforms above them also hovering. She noticed that Ganondorf didn’t look in good shape. He had bruises and what may be broken bones from their previous battle.

Suddenly, what appeared to be purple wire frames of humans materialized before them. They had what looked like human organs floating inside their frames. The frames started attacking immediately. Kirby gave Zelda a look and the Hyrulian Princess seemed to understand and nodded. Kirby sucked her up and copied the ability of Naryu’s Love.

Samus found that certain attacks work well against the wire frames. Her screw attack seemed to work well as did her grapple beam. As did Link’s sword spin and grapple hook, and Zelda and Kirby’s Naryu’s Love and throws. Suddenly Samus stumbled onto the stunning realization that she could not find Ganondorf. She cut through what seemed to be a never-ending army of wire frames to finally find Ganondorf’s body lying on the ground, barely conscious, barely living. Link used a sword spin to clear the way for the others and himself.

"Quick, Kirby, I need a Max Tomato!" shouted Samus. Kirby reached into his mouth.

Suddenly Ganondorf grabbed Samus. "Just…destroy…the Federation," he said in a pained voice. Kirby pulled out a Max Tomato, but it was too late, Ganondorf’s soul had already slipped away.

Each of them attacked with triple strength after that, destroying hundreds after hundreds of wire frames.

***

"We’re losing," said the second voice.

"I know, I’m working on it," said the first. "We need to get something in there that’ll give the frames a power-up."

"Or just one powerful power-up for only one of the wire frames,"

"Of course," said the first, "a starman."

***

A glint caught Kirby’s eye. It was heading for a wire frame. Soon he realized what it was, a very rare starman. He quickly let go of the Naryu’s Love he had obtained and sucked up the wire frame that the starman was heading toward. Because the wire frame was now inside the little pink fluff ball, the starman ran into Kirby, shedding the power of invincibility upon him instead, and from thereon was the death of the wire frames.

"Congratulations," said the voice again, "you’ve managed to beat our wire frames. Your victory will not last long. Computer, Final Destination, send in the prototype."

The same tingling sensation came over Samus, but this one came along with fear and dread. They appeared on a platform similar to the first but larger and with no smaller hovering platforms above them.

Something big was materializing before them, terribly big. It was completely materialized now. It was probably as big as a five-story building. It had a spiked tail and a spiked turtle-shell back. It had a horned head and crazed eyes. Overall, it looked hungry.

The battle started immediately. Samus allowed Kirby to suck her up and charged her beam while Zelda and Link kept it busy. She started firing missiles at it and morph ball bombs, anything to get it damaged. Everyone else showed the same strategy. Giga-Bowser didn’t seem too bothered. It started out with some physical attacks. Suddenly, a wave of fire spread over everyone as the prototype let loose its breath. Samus knew it was time for some serious action. She held it with her grapple beam and flung it into the air. She performed a screw attack, which just seemed to make it even madder. Samus saw that Kirby was flying above the giant monster. He was just turning into a rock when Giga-Bowser jumped in the air, retracted into his spiked shell and spun around rapidly, sending Kirby high in the air. Kirby hit the ground with a thud. He jumped up and shot his charge beam into the air. It whizzed through the air and finally met its target. Giga-Bowser let loose a cry of pin. Link let loose two masterful sword strikes. He threw the boomerang and grabbed Giga-Bowser with his hook shot. He swung the beast above him and slashed it with his sword. The monster seemed to hover in the air for a second and positioned himself to smash down on to the ground. The blow hit Link with deafening force. Link lay on the ground for a minute but courageously stood up. Staggering, he shot several arrows at the beast and finished with a sword spin. Zelda was desperately using Din’s Fire to weaken the beast and Farore’s Wind to confuse it. She occasionally grabbed it and drove it to the ground with bolts of lightning. Kirby was hammering away and using his cutter on the gigantic beast.

Samus was now limiting herself to firing missiles and doing screw attacks upon her opponent, strategizing while doing it all. Then she looked back to how they weakened Ganondorf so much. They had fought as a team.

"LINK! ZELDA! KIRBY!" she shouted over the noise of the brawl, "WE NEED TO WORK AS A TEAM!" She yelled the last part louder so all could hear her. They all nodded in agreement.

First, Zelda blasted Giga-Bowser into Kirby’s hammer with Din’s Fire. The force of the hammer sent the monster flying back into Link’s bomb. The explosion threw Giga-Bowser into Samus’s waiting charge beam. Giga-Bowser lay on the ground for a few minutes. He woke suddenly and spun, knocking everyone to the far edges of the platform. As everyone gathered up again it jumped into the air and, as it did with Link, smashed down upon them. Zelda was fortunate enough to teleport away from the attack, and she saw that her friends were knocked unconscious. She quickly transformed into Sheik and started hitting Giga-Bowser with an abundance of physical attacks. She soon tired and transformed back into Zelda to use magic instead. The prototype saw her pause and tried to take advantage of this opportunity. He quickly inhaled and exhaled a field of flame. Zelda thought quickly, adrenaline rushing through her blood. She used Naryu’s Love at the very last moment and sent the beasts fire right back at him. The prototype roared in anger and pain. Zelda had begun to annoy him… and made him hungry. He picked her up with lightning-fast speed and opened his mouth wide to eat her.

Meanwhile, a bounty hunter stirred. Samus slowly woke up. She saw Giga-Bowser holding Zelda, mouth wide open. Zelda was desperately using Naryu’s Love to break free from the monster’s clutches. It didn’t seem to have much effect. Suddenly, an idea popped into Samus’s mind. She tried to stand, but her body wasn’t up to it. She tried again. This time she stood up, raised her arm cannon in front of her, and started charging her power beam. The prototype’s jaws were nearing closer and closer. Finally, her beam was charged. She summoned all her strength, all her adrenaline, all her power and jumped. She took aim, timed it, and shot. From her time with her newfound friends, she learned about Zelda’s powers. Naryu’s Love could reflect any projectile with twice the force. She was falling back toward the ground now. She didn’t care. All that mattered was that she aimed true. Her power beam was almost there now. Zelda used Naryu’s Love again. Right before the shield shattered, the power beam hit the very edge of the diamond. It bounced off and flew right into Giga-Bowser’s mouth. The force that met Giga-Bowser’s mouth was deadly. It hit him right in his most vulnerable spot, the back of his throat. Such force hitting his spinal chord would cause it instantly to shut down, as it did. Giga-Bowser hit the ground with a deafening thud. Zelda was finally able to free herself from his clutch. Just as she did a siren and a voice came on the intercom.

"Emergency, emergency, Prototype GB will self destruct in thirty seconds," said the intercom voice. With that, Link and Kirby regained consciousness. The intercom repeated itself several times. Samus pressed some buttons on her arm cannon that summons her gunship. There was a crash and the gunship appeared to have blasted through the wall of the space ship.

"Ten, nine, eight, seven…" The intercom was now counting down to detonation. Everyone quickly jumped in to the gunship.

"Four, three…" The gunship took off with amazing speed and crashed through the space ship wall.

"Two, one…" The only thing the people in the gunship saw was an enormous flash and the ship was gone, never to be seen again. The people of Hyrule had celebrations (Kirby ate half the food). Link and Zelda were now honored twice over in the land of Hyrule, and Samus still hunts the skies.
