Teacher/Team Detentions
Teachers may require students to remain after the regular school day.
Students will be given 24 hour notice, which the student or parent may
waive. Transportation home is the responsibility of the student and
his/her parent. Detention assigned during the regular school day
(lunch) does not require 24 hour prior notification. Being involved
in an extracurricular activity is not a valid reason to postpone or skip
detention. IF the studetn is supposed to participate in a school-sponsored
activity on the day the detention is assigned, the detention has priority.
SSIMS Discipline
Policy 2000-2001
**Students must:
Arrive promptly
Bring classwork or homework to do
Teachers will assign work if none is brought.
Work quietly.
Note: in case of Lunch Detention the student will eat their lunch during
the time.
** Students may:
use the time to make-up work.
Late-Work
Daily Assignments / Homework:
-
Are due during designated class periods on assigned days.
-
A penalty of 10% will be assessed on work turned in after the assigned
class period.
-
Work will not be accepted after the next class meeting.
Example:
IF an assignment is due on Monday during 3rd period, it will not
be accepted after Wednesday during 3rd period
(because this is the "next" class meeting.) IF the assignment is
turned in anytime between 3rd period Monday
and 3rd period Wednesday, it will lose 10 percentage points, therefore
dropping an "A" to a "B," a "B" to a "C,"
and so forth.
Major Projects / Essays:
-
Will not be accepted after 5 calendar days for 7th grade
students.
-
Will receive a grade penalty depending on the grading rubric. This
will differ among individual teachers and projects.
In Mrs. Kochan's class promptness is part of the requirements to receive
an "A."
The highest grade a late paper can receive is a "B."
Make-Up Work
Classwork and homework that is missed due to excused absences may be
made-up without penalty. The student will have the same amount of
time to complete the assignment (dates adjusted to account for absences).
Some strategies for receiving classwork and homework:
1. Call your homework buddy!
2. IF the teacher accepts email correspondence, then email your
teacher.
3. Ask to go to your missed classes during connect time.
4. Check out the "Absentee Binder" in your classrooms it will
have all of the notes and handouts you did not receive.
5. Ask your teacher respectfully before class begins or during
individual classwork time.
IF you are absent for more than two days:
-
Parents may call the counseling office to arrange for
a time to pick up classwork. The counselor will notify the teachers
to give them ample time to send the homework.
