Movies that I like

I'm not a very avid moviegoer but I do like movies that are socially relevant in today's world. Unfortunately, those movies are very rare these days so I do not go out of my way to watch the "in" movies of the week, preferring to spend my money on something else more useful. An ideal movie for me would have great cinematography and a host of beautiful settings (which I find a lot in Chinese kung-fu movies), and real characters, which are even harder to find than meaningful movies. I adored The Last Samurai because it featured a man struggle in a foreign world, helping people whom he had previously sworn to annihilate. The Lord of the Rings is also a staple for the epic lover, as it is the grandfather of fantasy fiction as we know it. Hero was a treat (which I watched through VCD) because it made me reflect on how I saw the country that I lived in; would I risk my life to kill my country's ruler to save it from him? Of course, me being an anime fan, loved the Rurouni Kenshin movie. The idea of a former warrior being entagled in a plot to overthrow the current government was too hard to resist. It was also very moving. I'm still looking for that perfect movie. Who knows, it might just be showing in the malls.

My Top 5 Movie Favorites:

  1. The Last Samurai

  2. The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King

  3. Hero

  4. Batman Begins

  5. Rurouni Kenshin: Ishin Shishi e no Requiem
