Jackie Chun |
One of the world's greatest fighters, we only see Jackie during the Tenkaichi Budoukai, His name is a pun on Jackie Chan. Jackie is secretly Master Roshi/Muten Roshi. |
Jewel/Jueru |
He is one of the competitors in a few of the Budoukais. In the 25th Budoukai, he makes it to the final battle (since the Z warriors had left already), but it only takes a second for Android 18 to knock him out. He was thought to be strong, but like all of the non-Z warriors in the Budoukai, he is very weak. |
Kaio-bito |
Kaio-bito is the fusion of (East) Kaioshin and Kibit/Kibito using the Potara earings. However, they did not know that the fusion was permanent, they thought it was only temporary. Although fusion through the Potara earings makes the resulting person incredibly stronger, Kaio-bito is warned by Old Kaioshin/Rou Kaioshin, that he would still be no match for somebody the likes of Majin Buu. |
King Kai/(North) Kaio-sama |
King Kai, resides at the end of Snake Way. He lives on a very small planet, that has a gravity of almost 10 times earths natural gravity. King Kai, becomes Goku/Gokou's martial arts teacher, and teaches him the Kaio-ken and the Spirit Bomb/Genki-dama. He later trains Piccolo/Piccoro, Tenshinhan, Yamcha/Yamucha and Chiaotzu/Chaozu, but they do not learn the special techniques that Goku did. Throughout the series, King Kai is there, warning the Z team about danger, or congratulating them on a victory or newfound strength. On his planet, he has two animals, that he uses to help with training, Bubbles/Baburusu and Gregory. His planet is later destroyed, and he is killed, when Goku teleports the exploding Cell/Seru to his planet, to save Earth. |
Dai Kaio-sama |
Dai Kaio-sama, is the head Kaio. He is the ruler of the whole galaxy, whereas King Kai/(North) Kaio-sama is the head of only the North section of the galaxy. He is rarely seen in the series, and does not play a large role. He trains people in the afterlife, as King Kai does, but in the Buu saga, he was too afraid of Goku/Gokou's strength to train him. |
(East) Kaioshin |
Kaioshin is first seen in the Budoukai saga and Piccolo is the first to realize who he actually is. He is very strong, but the Saiyans surpass him easily. He is the God of all four remaining galaxies. His assistant/follower is Kibit/Kibito, with whom he later fuses with to form Kaio-bito. |
Dai Kaioshin |
Dai Kaioshin, is the head of the entire Dragonball universe. However, because he was absorbed by Majin Buu we only see him for a brief moment, in a flashback. When Majin Buu was still in his Kid Buu form, he was tearing up the whole universe, and he destroyed 12 out of the 16 galaxies, and the rulers of all of those galaxies. While fighting with the Kaioshins, he absorbs Dai Kaioshin (who was fat and friendly) and he became Fat Buu from that. Dai Kaioshin saved (East) Kaioshin's life. |
Old Kaioshin/Rou Kaioshin |
The Old Kaioshin, is the Kaioshin from 15 generations ago. He was imprisoned in the Zed sword, and when Gohan and Goku/Gokou break it, he comes out. He later unleashes all of Gohan's potential. Later, he gives up his life, giving it to Goku, so Goku can go back to Earth and defeat Majin Buu. |

Kami-Sama |
Kami-Sama is the guardian of the Earth, and creator of the Earth Dragonballs. He is directly linked to Piccolo's creation, as when Kami came to Earth, he chose to purge all the evil from within and created Piccolo-Daimao. Thusly, if one dies, the other dies. |

Kibit/Kibito |
Kibit is Kaioshin's assistant, and follows him around everywhere. He is very loyal to Kaioshin, and always tries to protect him from harm. He later uses the Potara earings and fuses with Kaioshin, to form Kaio-bito. |

Lemlia, is the princess of the former planet Arlia. She and her husband are seperated by the King of Arlia, only the be reunited, seconds before the planet is blown up. |
Lunch |
Lunch, originally in Dragonball, rarely appears in Dragonball Z (not at all in the American Dubbed version). She has a strange ability, when she sneezes, she changes personalities and looks. One personality is very kind and friendly. However, her other personality is the complete opposite, that of a mean-hearted criminal. Her closest friend in the series eventually becomes Tenshinhan. |
Maron |
Maron, is Krillin/Kuririn's girlfriend, for a little while. Although she looks like Bulma, she is a complete ditz, and goes with every man that she sees. Proving further her inability to be loyal, when Kuririn proposes to her, she goes off with another guy, who has a nice car. |
Marron |
The toddler-daughter of grown up Krillin/Kuririn and Android, No. 18. "Marron," which is he Japanized pronounciation for the French "marron," but it sitll means "chestnut". |
Minosha |
Minsoha is Tapion's younger brother, as seen in Movie 13. He plays a very minor role in the movie, however, he had one half of the monster Hildegarn trapped inside of his body. |
Nail/Neiru |
The protector of Guru/Saichourou, Nail is one of the strongest Namekian's alive, but his power turns out to be nothing compared to Frieza/Freezer. With his dying breath Nail manages to fuse with Piccolo/Piccoro, turning Piccolo into a "Super Namek". His name is a pun for a plain old garden variety "snail." |
Oolong |
The underwear-obsessed anthropomorphic pig usually in the Chairman Mao hat. Oolong appears in Dragonball as a villain at first, but later joins the side of good. |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Ox-king is a one time student of Master Roshi/Muten Roshi at the same time that Grandpa Gohan was. He is huge in size, and was considered very strong at the time. He is father to Chi-Chi and a loving grandfather to Gohan and Goten. |
Pan |
One-fourth Saiyan; Pan is the daughter of Goku/Gokou's son Gohan and Mr. Satan's daughter Videl/Beederu. A play on the Japanese word "pan," or "bread." |
Panbukin |
Panbukin, is the fat, balding male in Bardock's group and fittingly enough his name is a play on the word "pumpkin". During the first battle in the TV special, he is in Oozaru form, and gets a ki beam shot across his face, leaving a scar. He, like the others, was slaughtered by Dodoria and various other henchmen. |
Paikouhan |
Paikouhan is seen in Movie 12, and in the Cell Aftermath mini-saga (these were Anime fillers, and not in the manga). In Movie 12, he goes along with Goku/Gokou to fight Janemba. Although already dead at the time, he is killed by Janemba when he was stalling, giving time for Goku and Vegeta/Bejiita to fuse. |
Piccolo/Piccoro |
Piccolo is named after a small instrument that resembles a flute. In the beginning of Dragonball Z, carries a huge hatred for Goku/Gokou, because Goku killed his father in Dragonball. However, the two of them team up to fight a greater evil, Radditz/Radditzu. Piccolo kills Goku, when Goku sacrifices himself while holding down Radditz. After hearing the news of the two other Saiyan warriors, Piccolo takes Gohan to train. The two form a very strong bond, a bond strong enough to turn Piccolo into a good guy and a member of the Z team, to the suprise of everybody else. |
In the fight with Vegeta/Bejiita and Nappa, he protects Gohan from a giant blast fired by Nappa, and is killed. When he is killed, Kami-Sama and the Dragonballs also vanish. This is because, Piccolo's father was the bad half of Kami-sama, and Piccolo is so much alike his father, that the same tie exists between Piccolo and Kami-sama. |
He trains with King Kai/(North) Kaio-sama, and is then wished back by Kuririn and Gohan. Piccolo then fuses with Nail/Neiru, and is made incredibly stronger. He then arrives at the Frieza/Freezer fight and does very well against Frieza's lower forms. However, 4th form Frieza nearly kills Piccolo, which is one of two things that trigger Goku going Super Saiyan. |
In the Android saga, Piccolo trains with Goku and Gohan. However, when the news of a stronger android, Cell/Seru, Piccolo fuses with Kami-sama. This makes Piccolo incredibly stronger than he was, stronger than Non Perfect Cell, and stronger than Android 17 and Android 18. However he is of no match to Cell's second form, or Cell's perfect form. |
In the Buu saga, Piccolo is weaker than all of the Saiyans by far, and he knows and accepts this fact. However, he still helps out a lot. He teaches Goten and Chibi Trunks/Chibi Torankusu the fusion technique. Later he is absorbed by Majin Buu, and then is killed with the destruction of the Earth. |

Psych-Oni/Saiku Oni |
Psych-Oni, is the teenage boy that gets turned into Janemba. He is referred to as "Tank Boy" since it is his job to change the tanks on the spirit cleansing machine. However, when listening to his music, he forgets to change the tanks, and the spirit cleanser blows up. All of the evil inside of it, flows into him, forming Janemba. |

Goku/Gokou's first martial arts trainer. He also trained many people including Krillin/Kuririn, Ox-king/Gyuu Mao and Grandpa Gohan. Master Roshi resides on his own personal island, and is the creator of the fabled Kamehameha attack. Master Roshi is for all intents and purposes, a pervert. However, he used to be the strongest man alive. Master Roshi gives Goku Nimbus/Kintoun, which he originally received from Kami-Sama. Kame Sen'nin is his official title, which in Japanese means "Turtle Master." Although Kame means turtle, it is also a slang word for "dickhead," (no joke) which fits in well since he is portrayed as a pervert. |
Great Saiyaman/Gureeto Saiyaman |
Great Saiyaman, is Gohan's secret identidy. He wanted to become a hero of justice, or a crime-fighter, but he didn't want to be known. So, Bulma/Buruma designs him a costume, which he thinks is very cool, but everyone else (besides his brother) thinks it is really lame. He helps to stop crime all over the city, and he is constantly paranoid of people finding out who he is. Among other things that he does, he makes up stupid little catch phrases and dance moves (made to make fun of another anime; Sailor Moon), which again, he thinks they are cool, but everyone else thinks they are lame. Before he got a costume made for him, he was known as the Golden Haired Warrior, who made brief appearances, but was known from the Cell Game tapes. |
Great Saiyaman 2/Gureeto Saiyaman 2 |
Great Saiyaman 2, is Videl/Beederu's secret identidy, and is the counterpart to Gohan's secret identidy, Great Saiyaman/Gureeto Saiyaman. However, hers is not as secret, as she was already known to be a crime-fighter throughout the city. |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
A glorious warrior, a global saviour and an all around good sport. Mr Satan is a coward, and uses money to get what he wants. |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Shenlong/Shenron |
Shenlong, is the eternal dragon, the one who grants wishes when summoned by the collection of the Dragonballs. The whole series basically revolves around the Dragonballs, thus revolving around Shenlong. Shenlong can grant one wish at a time, and can be used only once a year. He has limits to his powers (although only a few), for example, he cannot wish somebody back to life more than once, and he cannot grant a wish which exceeds the power of his creator, Kami-Sama. |
Tapion |
Tapion makes his first and only appearance in movie 13. He has been trapped inside a music box for many many years. Soon he is set free thanks to the Dragonballs, but as the story progresses we find that Tapion has a monster named Hildegarn trapped inside of him, who was kept dormant by Tapion being trapped inside that mysterious music box. Tapion carries around a flute, on which he can play a melody that subdues the beast. Tapion also is seen giving Trunks his sword, which is a major plothole, |
Tenshinhan |
Trained by Tsuru-Sen'nin (Master "Crane," rival of Kame Sen'nin). He is the bodyguard of Chiaotzu/Chaozu, and they are also best friends. The last time that Tenshinhan plays a major in the series is in the fight against Nappa, where he is killed. However, he makes valiant attempts to try to defeat both Cell/Seru and Majin Buu. His name means the Japanese reading for the Chinese "tien chun fan," as in a certain kind of "fried rice." |
Toma |
Toma, is one of the members of Bardock's crew. When Bardock arrives late on the Planet they were on, Toma is the only one alive. He explains how Frieza/Freezer is planing to destroy the Saiyans, and how Dodoria killed their friends. After mentioning that, Toma dies off. Bardock takes off the armband/bandana type thing off of Toma's arm, as it goes from white to a bloodstained red, and wears it. |
Chibi Trunks/Chibi Torankusu |
Chibi Trunks, is the Trunks that is in the regular timeline. He is a year older than his best friend, Goten, and is Vegeta/Bejiita's and Bulma/Buruma's first child. He, like Goten, goes Super Saiya-jin at a very early age. He enters, and also wins the Tenkaichi Budoukai kids tournament, in the Buu saga. |
Later on in the Buu saga, he trains with Goten to learn the fusion dance. After several failed attempts, they do fuse, to become Gotenks/Gotenkusu. Gotenks however is not able to defeat Majin Buu. At the end of Dragonball Z, Trunks is a teenager, and is also the next heir to the Capsule Corporation. |
Future Trunks/Mirai no Torankusu |
Mirai Trunks, or Future Trunks, comes back from his timeline, in order to save Goku/Gokou from heart disease. In his timeline, the Androids destroy and kill everyone, and Goku was never able to fight due to his sickness. Mirai Trunks is trained by Mirai Gohan. Gohan saved Trunks from the androids many times. After Gohan is finally killed by the androids, Trunks goes Super Saiya-jin (this occurs in the anime only, in the manga he was already able to go Super Saiya-jin). |
However, after being defeated, he agrees with his mother, Bulma/Buruma, to go back in time. Once he does, he defeats Frieza Bot, and his father King Cold. He alerts Goku of the heart disease, and also of the Androids that are coming. He then goes back to his own timeline. |
However, he returns again, only to find out that the timeline he created by going back in time, is different than his own. Therefore, everybody was fighting the wrong Androids. Trunks trains with his father, Vegeta/Bejiita in the Room of Spirit and Time, where he goes Ultimate Super Saiya-jin. He fights Cell/Seru, and although he overpowers Cell, he is too slow to win the fight. Later in the Cell Games, when Perfect Cell reforms, Trunks is killed with a ki beam through his chest. After being revived, he goes back to his own time. Trunk's name, like most of the rest of his family refers to underwear. |
Tortoise/Umigame |
Master Roshi/Muten Roshi's turtle, that lives at the Kame house. He tries to keep sense in Master Roshi, usually unsucessfully. He doesn't have any major roles in Dragonball Z, and his power level is something around .0001. |
Uubu |
Ubuu is the good reincarnation of Majin Buu. He is first seen at the end of Dragonball Z at the Tenkaichi Budoukai. He is very scared, but Goku/Gokou can tell that he is very strong. When they fight in the Budoukai, Ubuu actually learns how to fight as the fight goes along, then Goku goes off with him to train him. Goku tells him that he will be the one to protect the Earth in the future. His name is basically just "Buu" backwords. |
Vegeta/Bejiita |
Vegeta, is the Prince of the (former) Planet Vegeta. In Japanese, his name is "Bejiita", meaning vegetable. Ever since he was a child, he had enormous strength, so Frieza/Freezer, chooses to blow up Planet Vegeta, when Vegeta was off of it. |
After hearing of Radditz/Radditzu's death, and about the Dragonballs, he heads to Earth along with Nappa. Once Goku/Gokou arrives, the two of them fight. Eventually, with the help of Krillin/Kuririn, Gohan ( and Yajirobe) he is defeated. However, Goku lets him survive. |
After the battle with the Z team, Vegeta is obsessed with revenge, obsessed with the Dragonballs, but most importantly in his mind, obsessed with being strongest Saiyan, and the strongest person in the universe. On Planet Namek, he fights with Dodoria, as well as Zarbon and the Ginyu force. When fighting the Ginyu, he teams up with Gohan and Krillin, so together they can fight a greater evil. When Goku arrives on Namek, Vegeta senses that Goku's power is the power of a Super Saiyan! |
Vegeta is killed by his once master turned enemy, Frieza. However he along with everybody on Namek is wished back to life, and to Earth. After the fight with Frieza, he stays with Bulma/Buruma on Earth. With the news of the Androids arriving, Vegeta trains especially hard, using gravity machines and other tools made by Dr. Briefs. Around this time, Vegeta has a son with Bulma, Chibi Trunks/Chibi Torankusu... later to find out that the boy that travelled back in time was his grown up son, Future Trunks/Mirai no Torankusu. |
During the android fight, he reveals that he can go Super Saiyan, to everyone's suprise. However, he is of no match to Android 17 or Android 18. He trains in the Room of Spirit and Time with Mirai Trunks. After this he is incredibly stronger than he was, but nothing in comparison to Super Saiyan II Gohan. |
In the Buu saga, he enters the Budoukai so he can get a chance to finally beat Goku. However, he purposely lets himself be "charmed" by Babi-Di in order to become stronger and more evil for the fight with Goku, thereby becoming Majin Vegeta/Bejiita. He uses a trick to beat Goku, and then attempts to fight Majin Buu. Vegeta blows himself up trying to kill Majin Buu, but it is of no success. He is later brought back to life, and fuses with Goku to become Vegetto/Bejitto. Later in the fight with Buu, he finally admits to Goku truly being the stronger of the two of them and he is also the one who had the idea to use a Genki Dama on Majin Buu. In the end of Dragonball Z, he has another child, Bra/Bura. |
Majin Vegeta/Bejiita |
Majin Vegeta is formed, when Vegeta/Bejiita lets himself get charmed, by Babi-Di. For more information on Majin Vegeta, follow this link, Majin Vegeta/Bejiita. |
Vegetto/Bejitto |
Vegetto is the fusion of Goku/Gokou and Vegeta/Bejiita. Unlike Gotenks/Gotenkusu, Vegetto was fused by using the Potara earings, which is supposedly a permanent fusion. Vegetto is incredibly strong, and is easily the strongest character seen in Dragonball Z. |
He was easily defeating Majin Buu, until he lets himself be absorbed, in order to save the others that were already absorbed by Buu. When this happens, the fusion becomes undone. |
Videl/Beederu |
The not-so-evil-as-she-sounds daughter of the "global savior" Mr. Satan. Her name is a jumbled-up reading of the English word "devil". She is stronger than her father, and is taught how to control her Ki by her future husband, Gohan. Although she is strong, she at first didn't realize how strong Gohan and his friends were, but she later discovers that as well as discovering that Gohan, not her father defeated Cell/Seru. With Gohan, she has a daughter named Pan. She also makes brief appearances as Great Saiyaman 2/Gureeto Saiyaman 2. |
Yajirobe |
Often found running errands for Kami-Sama, Yajirobe, is one of the weakest earth fighters. He is usually seen on Korin Tower, living with Korin/Karin. He carries around a sword, which he has used in battle. He rarely participates in fights, since he is a coward. However in a very short burst of courage he is able to cut off Vegeta/Bejiita's tail in the fight against him. Yajirobe has a strong love of food. |
Yamcha/Yamucha |
The roving desert bandit-warrior and former boyfriend to a teenage Bulma/Buruma. His name is the Chinese reading for "dim sum" |
