  • Who is he?

Who is he you ask, well Son Gohan is a ½ Saiya-jin ½ earthling. Who parents are Chi-chi (mother) and Gokou (father). He’s a bright little boy, because his mother makes him study practically all the time. His hair is black and eyes are black. When fighting he usually wears a GI resembling Gokou’s or Piccolo’s.

    Hidden Powers

What makes Gohan a special character is his hidden powers. What are they? Well basically Gohan was born with power far greater than any other DBZ hero except he wasn’t able to use them. They were, well….hidden. The only way Gohan could tap into this enormous power was through anger. Although enough training could help increase the current hidden power he has released. This is not to be confused with the anger that allows you to become Super Saiya-jin. Gokou does not have hidden power, Vegeta does not have hidden power. The anger from SSJ is part of a process where you have to be at a certain amount of power. Then be in total rage to break the barrier and gain the power from being a Super Saiya-jin. Where as if Gohan had all his hidden power released at age 4 would become Mystic Gohan and be stronger than SSJ3. Where as Gokou will at first need to be at a certain level to become SSJ3 Gokou. How he gained them? Well that’s unclear. At first it was thought that because he was ½ Saiya-jin and ½ earthling but then Trunks and Goten was born and (although extremely powerful) didn’t have hidden power. When his hidden power really shined was when he used them to become the first to be Super Saiya-jin 2. Many people are confused (don’t understand) what happened here, so let me tell you. First I have to say Gohan did NOT (I REPEAT DID NOT) become Super Saiya-jin 2 because #16 died!! If this was true Gohan would of became SSJ2 earlier when Cell blew him away, because Gohan thought he died then. He became SSJ2 when #16 resurfaced (or at least his head) and told Gohan that it is okay to express your anger and other stuff. Then when Cell crushes him, he pauses and gathers all his anger and releases it, trying to trigger his hidden power (which is what he was trying to do all that episode) in one of the greatest scenes in DBZ. Although after this Gohan thought that he released all his inner power, but he was wrong. Later in the Buu Saga after Gohan is knocked unconscious takes a visit to heaven and there’s an old Kaio-shin (Dai) who releases all his hidden power making him more powerful than all the Super Saiya-jin levels. When this happened though he surpassed Super Saiya-jin mode and wasn’t able to turn into it anymore.

    Piccolo

After the battle against Radditz. Piccolo takes the "brat" Gohan for training to help him get stronger for the upcoming battle against the Saiya-jins (Nappa and Vegeta). During this time Piccolo became less of a martial arts teacher to Gohan and more of a second father and Piccolo kinda thought of Gohan as a son. Gohan started admiring him a lot for teaching him and caring for him. He likes him so much he starts to imitate his clothing. During the battle against Nappa, Piccolo sacrifices himself to save Gohan. As he died he told Gohan how proud he was of him. This called Gohan to explode with anger. During all of Dragon ball Z they maintain there "father, son" relationship. Piccolo continues to help Gohan countless times.

    "Gohan the Brat!!"

Being a ‘brat’ is something Gohan has struggled with throughout most of his life. (In my opinion he wasn’t a brat, just a little kid) A brat to them was anyone who couldn’t take care of themselves and cried for help, always depended on others. The fact Gohan was like this became a part of his character. Gohan feels that he is a spoiled baby and that all his life he was taken care of, but he doesn’t want to be like that. This struggle shows up the most during Android/Cell saga. The very fact of Gohan thinking that he’s a baby provided him with enough inner struggle to break the barrier and become a Super Saiya-jin. Again this is mentioned when he first becomes SSJ2. After shedding tears during the transformation into SSJ2, his tears are blown away by the wind, then he says "I’m not a baby anymore." Proud of what he became. After Cell comes back after Gokou’s last teleportion, the Absolute and Perfect Cell attacks Vegeta, in an attempt to save him SSJ2 Gohan gets his left arm badly damaged. Which leaves him weakened and defenseless to Cells Kamehameha. As Cell performs a Kamehameha to destroy earth, Gohan watched waiting to be killed. Gohan then says, "…after all this I’m still a useless baby. But he wasn’t, with Gokou’s encouragement, Gohan was able to defeat Cell with help from the other members of the Z-team. **A MUST SEE SAGA**

    Personality

Son Gohan is a sweet little boy who maintains this personality throughout DBZ. He can’t stand evil doers and is a extremely caring person. That’s one thing Gokou or the others haven’t really caught on too; Gohan will not get or ever, get angry from his own pain. Every time he demonstrated a great amount of increase of hidden power is when someone else got hurt. He also isn’t ‘mean’ enough to even say no. He sacrifices his training to help out Videl. Which I guess would kinda make him a "doormat", but that’s Gohan, he well sometimes act like a doormat. He also becomes the Great Saiya-man because he hates to see anyone harmed or hurt.

    POWER!!

Gohan becomes the most powerful unfused DBZ hero at the end. His Mystic form not only passes up SSJ3, but is also a more definite form. (for those who don’t know, SSJ3 if gained too much strength it or staying to long in it will just change back into the non-super Saiya-jin form, which explains why Gokou always waits to the last moment to use it i.e. Movie #13. Anyway about Gohan, let me first ask you a question. Which character was born with the most power; Gokou, Gohan, or Goten? If you answered Gokou your probably just a dubbed fan. If you answered Goten then your smart and have been watching your fansubs, but wrong. If you answered Gohan because you say, "Hey this is a Gohan page, it must be Gohan." Then your just plain annoying :P but if you answered Gohan because you read about Mystic Gohan on my page or already knew than your right! All you guys that said Goten are probably screaming by now, "WHAT!! Goten was born a SSJ and when Gohan got mad at Radditz he only got his power at One thousand-something. Though you may be right the question was how much power was they born with not how much they could use and if you know about Mystic already than you know that Gohan was born with the ability to turn into Mystic Gohan but didn’t have anyone to release his power. So remember that.

    Other Identities

    The Golden Haired Warrior
-Gohan during his teen years fights crime as a Super Hero (err…I mean Champion of Justice). He doesn’t want anyone to know his identity so he switches to Super Saiya-jin and the people of Satan city dub him as the Golden Haired Warrior. (sounds a whole lot cooler than The Great Saiya-man). The Golden Haired Warrior makes 3 appearances in Satan City, two times when he was applying to Orange Star High School and the third when he went there for his first day of School. Eventually he changes to the Great Saiya-man because Videl begins to suspect it to be Gohan because (you guessed it ) he was wearing the same clothing as Gohan.

    The Great Saiya-Man (costume #1)
-Later that day Gohan heads to Bulma’s telling her his problem. Soon she (the genius she is) creates a Super Hero costume for him which includes a spiffy helmet, cape, gloves, and a green gi. This costume automatically appears on him through his watch. It works like the Capsule cars, etc. And right before he becomes him he yells "Transform!!"

    The Great Tire-Man
Ummm…..errrr…not an official identity of Gohan. After The Great Saiya-man makes his first appearance, a kid in his class thought that The Great Saiya-man name was The Great Tire-man. Sorry kid but no. Gohan can’t help but to yell out during class, "It’s the Great Saiya-man!!!" and everyone turns and stares and him. Making Videl more suspicious of thinking Gohan is The Great Saiya-man, yeesh Gohan.

    The Great Saiya-Man (costume #2)
Shortly after Videl discovers The Great Saiya-man identity she forces Gohan to enter the World Martial arts Tournament with her. To keep his Identity safe from other people, Gohan decides to enter the tournament as the Great Saiya-man. But you can’t have any form of protection so he has to get rid of the helmet. He once again goes to Bulma with his problem and she simply gives him some glasses and a head bandanna.

    Mystic Gohan

(man am I getting sick of talking about Mystic Gohan) Gohan with all his inner power released (you thought I was going to say hidden power didn’t ‘ya.) by Dai Kaio-shin, who was inside of the Zetsword. Mystical Gohan face becomes slim and his eyes beocme narrow, you know like Vegeta’s. His hair also sticks straight up, but you can’t tell because his hair is already sticking up.

    Super Saiya-jin Gohan

-SSJ is a form Saiya-jins (and half saiya-jins) can reach, through extreme training and requires anger to break the level to gain Super Saiya-jin. A Super Saiya-jin is a Legendary Warrior in all Saiya-jins. When they reach it there hair turns gold and eyes turn greenish color. Along with the look they gain a great power increase.

    Super Saiya-jin 2 Gohan

-The same as Super Saiya-jin except with more power. It’s in debate rather you need extreme anger to reach it. Most people say you need anger because of that stunt Gohan pulled in the Cell Saga but I don’t think so because I believe when Gohan got angry he just released enough hidden power to that he would be considered a SSJ2. Gokou and Vegeta was never shown reaching an extreme anger to become SSJ2. As for Goten and Trunks well it’s in debate whether they are or aren’t SSJ2.

    Relatives

Son Gohan (adopted Great Grandpa) Bardock (Grandpa) Gokou (father) Mr. Satan (father-in-law) Chi-chi (mother) Goten (brother) Videl (wife) Pan-chan (daughter)

    Name

The Son part is only optional part of his name since it is only a "sir" name. So you can call him Gohan or just plain Son or both. How did he get the name? Well Gokou named his son after his adopted Grandpa who was Son Gohan. So are Gohan is the second person who went by that name. Oh, in Japanese Gohan means rice (a bowl of rice or something).

    GT Gohan

Though I’m not a big fan of DBGT (don’t get me wrong though I like it), it does have Gohan in it though. In GT Gohan pretty much looks the same as in the last DBZ episode (glasses, spiked hair, etc.) But the major difference is power. The writer of GT not only makes Gohan one of the weakest characters but removes his Mystic Abilities (which I explain a million times) and just makes him a Super Saiya-jin?!?(maybe he didn’t understand what happened ). Well there’s not much to say here but I still recommend seeing the series, it gets better and it’s nice to see your fav. Characters battle (actually mostly Gokou and everyone else gets whooped) and I got to admit the ending is odd but gives you more closure than that crappy ass DBZ ending!
