In 1984, the volcano's activity jarred the Ark's computers to life. Skywarp was closest to the repair beam and thus was the first functional Transformer on Earth.
Skywarp proceeded to repair Megatron, and then the rest of the Decepticons. Not long after, due to Starscream's actions, the Autobots were revived as well.
Skywarp was one of the most used Decepticons in battles (generally with Thundercracker and Starscream as well).
In 2005, Skywarp was severely injured during the attack on Autobot City. Skywarp, along with the Insecticons, Thundercracker, and Megatron, were dumped out of Astrotrain by the other Decepticons on their way back to Cybertron. There, they ran into Unicron, who struck a deal with Megatron. Megatron and the other Decepticons were then physically transformed. It is unknown who was created into who; it may be possible that Skywarp had become Cyclonus or Scourge, though it has not been specified.

Before the arrival of Unicron, Skywarp played a small role in the fight to stop the Cybertrons from building their new weapon at a hidden base recently discovered by the Destrons. Skywarp, Starscream, Thundercracker and the Constructicons were overwhelmed by a small army of Cybertrons and Superion and retreated.

Skywarp went along with Megatron's orders, but when Megatron failed to take over the Ark due to Sparkplug Witwicky's poisoned fuel, the newly-revived Shockwave had to finish the job.
Skywarp then followed Shockwave when he took control from Megatron. During an attack on the Ark, Skywarp, Thundercracker, and Starscream were captured by the newest Autobot, Omega Supreme. The three were taken apart and put in storage.
Sometime later, the Autobots took the Ark to the moon to allow Grimlock and Blaster to fight for Autobot leadership (Blaster was actually substituting for the injured Fortress Maximus). The Decepticons, under Ratbat, took the opportunity to attack and free the captive Decepticons.
When Starscream absorbed a portion of power from the Underbase, the Autobots and Decepticons launched an all-out attack to stop him. In one of the battles, Starscream destroyed Thundercracker and Skywarp. Skywarp remained deactivated for months until he was finally rebuilt. He was last seen serving under the command of the newly rebuild Megatron, even saving an Autobot's life.
