Misato Katsuragi
Misato Katsuragi is NERV's director of operations and truely the heart of NERV. Though she may seem like a hard worker on the job Shinji finds out that in her free time she is a slob (and a drunk as well :) ) Her apartment is constantly cluttered with garbage and empty beer bottles. She took Shinji in after she found out that Shinji would be living alone in NERV. In many ways she is like a motherly figure to Shinji. She originally joined NERV to try to fight the angels, who killed her father, who she wasn't close to anyways. Her father pretty much put his family on the back burner and had his job become the main priority in his life. She decided to join out of confusion whether she loved her father or not, anyways she wanted to get revenge. She later learns that her father was in NERV which confuses Misato even farther. Also involved in Misato's life is her ex-boyfriend, Kaji. She originally breaks up with him because she couldn't believe that she could be falling in love with a man so much like her father. She later in the series returns to Kaji again, her feelings for him return. Sadly at the end of the series, Misato has to kill Kaji for betraying Nerv. She then finds a message on her answering machine from Kaji in which he apologizes for hurting her and says 'If we can meet again I will tell you those words I couldn't tell you years ago'.
