Rei Ayanami
Rei Ayanmai is known as the "first child" and the registered pilot of EvaRei is veiled in mystery. She seems even more cut off from the world than Shinji. She limits her contact with others to as little as she can. Although she seems strangely close to Shinji's father which confuses Shinji. Hopw could someone be closer to his father than him? Rei said that the reasons she piloted were because she had a connection to every person she protects and because without it she has nothing. Benonst to Shinji Rei Ayanami is actually his mothers spirit put into a body created from the human instrumentality project. Rei dies twice in the series. When she dies the people at nerv just take her spirit and put into another Rei Ayanami body and act like nothing had happened.
