Ritsuko Akagi
Dr. Ritsuko Akagi is the head scientist in charge of tests involving the Evas. She is a little older than Misato but is still close friends with her. Soon after her graduation from college, she went to work for GHERN (later changed into nerv) ; thus following her family'stradition. Her mother was then the head researcher there. It was she, that created the magi computer system which manages NERV and help give advice. Ritsuko admired her mother as a scientist, but hated her as a person and a mother. To seperate herself from her mother, she soon after dyed her hair blonde. It was her mother , who had fallen in love with Gendo after Yui's death, killed Rei I after Rei admitted that Gendo called her an old and annoying old hag who he had no use for. After realizing what she had done, she commited suicide. After Ritsuko's mother commits suicide, Ritsuko assumes her mother's title and position and becomes the Chief Technician at NERV. She becomes Chairman of "E-Project" (Evangelion), Technical Division One, she creates the designs on the Eva exoskeletons and maintains the Evas at Nerv Central. Her duties include but are not limited to; Coordinating all safety measures for both the Eva pilots and the Evas while on missions. She's the authority on Angels and the mysterious forces behind who and what they are. She evaluates and investigates all corporations creating weapons, to fight the Angels. Ritsuko, also maintains and orchestrates the operation of Tokyo-3's supercomputers, known as the "Magi". She gives the Magi the thre characteristics of her mother; as a scientist, as mother, and as a woman. She ranks fourth in the Nerv hierarchy after Gendou Ikari, Huyuzu Fuyutski and Misato Katsuraki. Her only friends at NERV are Misato and Kaji, though at times their duties at NERV strains their friendship. Ritsuko is sympathetic toward the pilots because of the demands placed on them, but her primary concerns are the Evangelions. Where as Misato's concerns are the pilots.They debate this through out the series. However, Misato's optimistic personality tends to relax Ritsuko a lot. Ritsuko tends to be more on Gendou's side rather than Misato, because she knows more about the "Whole Picture". She works closely with Gendou and eventually falls in Love with Him. (As Her mother had done before her.) She loves Ikari Gendou very much and does everything for him, They eventually have a torrid love affair. Like her mother Ritsuko soon realized she couldn't compete with Rei for Gendou’s affection. She could not tolerate the fact that she was no match for a "dummy" without a soul, therefore she destroyed the core of dummy system (Dummy Plug Project). She kills all the other Rei clones (Rei dummy-plug) as her revenge toward Gendou for betraying her. Gendou then pulls a gun and kills Ritsuko.
