Touji Suzuhara
Touji is one of Shinji's classmates in the beginning of the series. Compared to the other students though he seems kind of blunt, tactless, and brutish. He has a secret admirer in the class represenative, Hikari Horaki. He at first hates Shinji because it was Shinji's robot that was fighting with the angel when his sister was hurt in the crossfire. He takes it out on Shinji till he sees what Shinji actually has to go through inside the Eva (during the battle with Shamshel) and also when his sister chews him out for beating up the guy that saved her life (Shinji) At that point he really considers Shinji a friend. Touji eventually becomes the fourth child for NERV on one condition: His sister is put into one of their special military hospitals. He then becomes the designated pilot of Eva unit-03 but, this is shortly lived. During the Eva's activation test it is taken over by bardiel (the 13th angel) and goes on a rampage with Touji trapped inside. Shinji (or rather Shinji's dummy plug system) Destroyed the renegade Eva and severly injured Touji in the process (he lost an arm and a leg).
