THE QUARTER HORSE

The quarter horse, as can be deduced from his name, excels at racing over a quarter of a mile. He is a strongly built animal, with powerful hindquarters and a short head. Today, he is best known as the ideal working horse, being the principal breed used in roping, barrel racing, cutting, and just about any other job where cattle are involved (he is know to have a 6th sense, which is referred to as "cow sense", which means he seems to be able to read a cow's mind and anticipate it's next move). The quarter horse is the ideal horse for beginning rider or advanced eventer.
