Jill Murphy My Trip to the Dominican Republic

What an experience!  I have never had such an amazing time in my life.  I would go back in a flash.  This trip opened my eyes to so many things.  My thoughts are so clear and I am open minded now.  I got along with everyone so well and I still had time to myself.

I feel like our whole group made such an impact on the people of Ocoa that when they hear of our return in January and March, they will be very excited.  To see those children’s faces light up when we gave them even a sticker makes me think of how much we take for granted.

To be honest, Las Caobas was scary for me when I first got there.  I was the only one who would say what others were thinking.  I wanted to go back to Ocoa right away.  But I prejudged that village.  The memories I now have of how each person, young or old was happy even with the little they have.  It was impressive.  I didn’t want to leave.  They welcomed us into their homes, even though some of us couldn’t speak Spanish.

I believed Heather was a part of this trip, she watched over our group of 21, and made sure we had a safe trip and an amazing time.

I will never be able to fully explain my experience in the Dominican Republic.  But the memories will forever be in my heart.  If I could only choose one word to explain my experience, it would be; breathtaking.
