Starting Over

Brian

I woke up to the smell of something cooking. I shielded my eyes from the blinding sunlight that poured into the loft as I checked the alarm clock. It was only 9:30. I slowly sat up and watched as Justin was making breakfast. I smiled and watched him for a couple of minutes before he noticed me.

"Hey sleepy head."

"It's 9:30. What the fuck are you doing up so early?"

"I couldn't wait to get up this morning. I had a good night's sleep for the first time since, well, you know." I nodded at Sunshine. "I'm making your favorite, so wash up and get your skinny ass down here."

I smiled and got up from my bed. It was good to see Justin happy again. I walked into the bathroom and washed my face and hands. 9:30 on a Sunday was too early for my ass to be out of bed.

Suddenly there was a loud bang and Justin screamed out, "Fuck!"

I ran out and saw the frying pan on the floor. The food was everywhere.

"Justin." I walked down and picked the frying pan up from the floor. "It's okay."

Justin shook his head.

I placed the pan in the sink, "We'll just go to the diner for breakfast."

Justin sighed, "But I was doing this because I wanted to thank you."

"For what?"

He got quiet, "For saving me."

"You saved yourself."

"I mean that night."

I nodded because I knew that's what he meant all along.

"I'll clean up. You can shower."

I smiled, "How about I clean up and we shower?"

He smiled and nodded.

"Good. I'll be there in a sec."

He walked up the stairs and into the bathroom.

I cleaned the eggs from the floor and threw them into the garbage. They landed on top of the scarf. I looked up at the bathroom. Justin must have put it in there while I was asleep. I tied the bag and took it out of the bin. I wanted it out of my loft.

"Brian?"

I turned back towards the bathroom, "I'll be right there." I opened the loft door and placed the bag outside in the hall.

It was time to start all over again.

Justin

I just tried to make Brian breakfast but my gimp hand ruined it. I thought I had everything under control until I dropped that fucking frying pan.

"Everything's all cleaned up." He stepped into the shower behind me, "Now it's our turn."

I turned around and he was smiling. It's good to see Brian smiling. I like when he smiles because it's something that rarely happens. He only smiles when he's taking care of Gus or if he's talking with Lindsay or Michael. I guess that means he cares about me.

"Do you need me to help you?"

I nodded my head and he rubbed the soap all over my chest. He never took his eyes off mine.

"So last night was...." He paused trying to think of the right thing to say.

So I finished the sentence for him, "Ridiculously romantic."

He nodded and smiled again. "Yeah."

"I remember everything now."

He turned me around and began to scrub my back, "Oh yeah?"

"I remember how hot you looked."

He laughed.

"I'm serious."

"Go on."

"I remember the dance. And you were wrong." I turned to face him, "We weren't just alright." I smiled up at him, "We were incredible."

"Yeah, we were."

Brian

He remembered everything. He remembered the dance and he remembered how great it was.

And he's right, we were incredible. I didn't give a shit at the time what anyone thought. I wanted to make it the happiest night of his young life. And it was.

It was also one of the worst nights of his life...and mine. I thought I was going to lose him.

I was terrified that I was the sole reason why he was nearly killed.

But I wasn't. Chris Hobbes was...is. He is the reason why I almost lost Justin.

"Brian? Are you okay?" He looked up at me confused. I got lost for a moment there.

I nodded my head, "Yeah I'm fine." I didn't want to tell him how happy he just made me.

"Okay." He picked up the soap. "Now it's your turn." I turned around and let him wash my back. "So we'll go to the diner and then what?"

"I don't know. What do you feel like doing?"

He stopped rubbing my back.

"What's wrong?" I turn to look at him.

"Are we going to be doing something together?"

Oh shit. "Yeah. It's supposed to be a nice day. Maybe we'll go visit the munchers and hang out with my son."

"That would be nice. I didn't really get to say good-bye to them yesterday."

I nodded my head.

"Well, I'll let you finish up."

"Thanks." I grabbed his arm before he left the shower stall. He looked at me and I kissed him.

"What was that for?"

I shrugged my shoulders and didn't answer. Damn kid.

He smiled and a grabbed a towel, "Don't take too long." He walked out of the bathroom and I finished my shower.
