Biography

Staci was born on June 6, 1975 and grew up in Devon, Pennsylvania. She is 162cm tall, has blue-gray eyes and honey blonde hair. In her spare time she likes to be with her dog, pal around with her friends, tend to her garden, and decorate her home. And when she's not doing all of this, she likes to read and laze around in bed. According to her, the character she plays on Step By Step is not as similar to her own personality as much as it is to her sister's. Staci also insists she is a feminist, but not as "warped" as Dana is.

Her mother sent both Staci and her younger sister to kid beauty pageants when they were still very little. They also went to the Queen of Prussia Charm School, in King of Prussia, Pennsylvania. An agent once saw them at some recital and started calling them in for commercials. At age 8, she moved to New York with her mother and sister, and balanced modeling and theater acting while maintaining high grades in school. Staci even won several prestigious scholastic awards, including a City of New York essay contest and the National Language Arts Olympiad. As for her acting career, she branched out into commercials, voice-overs and jingles, then eventually moved up to roles in television specials and mini-series.

At the age of 11, Staci screen tested for the role of Nicole Bradford on the sitcom My Two Dads. Although the series producer Michael Jacobs thought her perfect for the role (and even shot the pilot episode with her) the NBC studio executives believed she looked "too old for the part". Apparently at 11 Staci appeared too mature to play the 13-year-old Nicole, so she was not guaranteed the role, and more screen tests of other actresses were done. In the end, after interviewing around 50 other girls, the executives agreed that Staci was the best choice for the role, "head and shoulders above the rest". After she was signed (again) to the role of Nicole, the head of NBC (Brandon Tartikoff) approached Michael Jacobs and said, "Gee, if we knew all along that this kid was so good, why did we have to go through all that extra testing?" Such are the ways of television.

In the beginning of her TV career, Staci decided that it was time to fulfill one of her childhood fantasies and create a stage name for herself. At first she chose Staci Love, but this did not last as Michael Jacobs pointed out to her that it sounded like a name for "a female mud wrestler". After pouting a bit, Staci finally agreed and searched her genealogy to derive a new name. She found a "Kean" in her family's history, and decided to modify it into -- you know it -- "Keanan".

Staci was not your normal teen. Her dressing room on the set of My Two Dads was not plastered with posters of rock stars or cute guys; instead, one entire wall was covered with an impassioned, graphic plea to save the sea otter. She is also a vegetarian because she can't stand the thought of animals being raised and living their entire lives in confined spaces just to be slaughtered for food. Another example of her wisdom -- her idols are Jack Nicholson, Katherine Hepburn, Glenn Close and Albert Schweitzer. In fact, on a table in her My Two Dads dressing room was a well-worn copy of Schweitzer's biography by Norman Cousins!

Staci is truly a brilliant girl -- and a great actress: she received both the Youth In Film Award and 16 magazine's Top TV Newcomer Award for her work on My Two Dads.

This biography is outdated.  I am in the process of writing a new biography for Staci.  Check back soon for update.
