03.09.01 --Tahiti This is the first place I will be travelling. I am very excited, although we arrive at 4:00am. It should be a beautiful place and I imagine the view of the sunset while I fly over Tahiti will be spectacular. Stay tuned for more details. . . . 03.10.01 -- Day 1, Papeete, Tahiti A full and enjoyable day which saw me wandering the town in the early morning, going to the Market and later in the afternoon enjoying a hot day at the beach. The evening was pleasent and spent napping and watching a traditional Polynesian dance at a fancy hotel that any Club Med stayer would envy. 03.11.01 -- Day 2, Moorea, Society Islands near Tahiti Today was a jam-packed day which took us to the island of Moorea, 15km NE off the main island of Tahiti. The boat ride to the island was wonderful, bu very choppy waters on the way back made for a less than pleasent return. Visiting the island of Moorea was spectatcular! After our guided tour, which brought us to the center of a once active volcano, we relaxed on a white sand beach and soaked in the sun. The view was incredible and I have lots of pictures to prove it! 03.12.01 -- Day 3, Papeete, Tahiti Another exhausting day. Today was spent taking a guided tour around the 52km island and stopping at various points of interest. Particularly noteworthy was the black sand beach stop and the light house where Captian James Cook first landed. The heat was very intense all day, but during the evening it absolutely poured, cooling off the temperature. Overall a good day with a minor setback being that my camera jammed and I may have lost all my previously taken pictures. :( 03.13.01 -- Day 4, Papeete, Tahiti A great day which was much more relaxing than the previous few. A group of us went to the Museum of Tahiti which had excellent displays ans was very informative. I'm finding it really interesting to learn about the physical and human geography of Tahiti. Maybe I should have been a geography major. . . The night was spent chillin' and hanging out w/ some people in my air conditioned hotel room. Definately a gerat day! 03.14.01 -- Day 5, Papeete, Tahiti Our last day in Tahiti was spent by going to watch the shark feeding at a nearby lagoon. We enjoyed lunch at McDonalds and a few of us stayed in the air conditioned restuarant for over four hours working on our feild notebooks. At 1:30am we left Tahiti and were whisked off to the Cook Islands. Overall I really enjoyed my time in Tahiti and am excited about exploring the Cook Islands. . . |
