De'Von T Davis' life began in the city of Detroit, Michigan. Born as Derek Vaughn, De'Von was destined for the world of entertainment even in the womb. The doctor proclaimed that because this child was doing so much dancing around in his mother's stomach, he accidentally got his umbilical cord wrapped around his neck twice. With life almost ending before it started, Derek Vaughn was definitely meant to grace the earth with his presence.
The Life of
De'Von T. Davis
At the age of eight years old is when Derek got his first glimse at pageantry. His birth-sister was a contestant in the Miss Black Star Pageant.
Amazed by the competition and different categories Derek wanted to be apart of this field of entertainment. Disappointed when his mother told him that pageants were for "girls only", Derek made dancing his outlet.
In 1994, his family moved to Waycross, Georgia, where he graduated from Ware County High School. In 1998, Derek became a father of his first and only son. In 2001, Derek moved to Atlanta to attend Morris Brown College, where he participated in the marching band (saxophone), BlackMale Dance Team, Student Government, and many other activities.
In January 2002, Derek was exposed to his first drag show with the Stars of the Century at Club Traxx. It was a new experience for him in the gay lifestyle. Known for his dancing at different events and clubs, he was asked by Jasmine Bonet to be a backup dancer for her at the Georgia Continental Pageant (2003). This was his first gay pageant experience. In May of the same year, Derek danced for Christopher Iman at the Mr. EOY pageant. Being that this was Derek's first male pageant attending, he instantly knew that it was something he would like to participate in.
While continuing to dance in other people's talents, Derek began contemplating his pageant career. He wanted his stage name to somehow tie into his real name. This is where De'Von came from (the beginning of his first name and an abbreviated version of his last name). De'Von became the
son of Ronnie Davis and Lisha Paris. Because he wanted to begin his pageant career without any name stigmas, De'Von decided not to add on his last name until he won his first title. After winning his first pageant in November 2003, he was asked to join the Tajoure family.
After winning a national newcomer title in January 2004, De'Von not only attached the additions to his name (T. Davis), but he also decided to cross over into the mainstream of pageantry.
De'Von T. Davis holds a full-time job as a National Accounts Coordinator for a major wireless company and also has a part-time graphic design business (Sphinx Imaging, Inc.). When not preparing for a pageant or working, De'Von enjoys spending quiet evenings at home, listening to music, and watching TV.
