21/07 Stags have played (and lost) a couple of friendlies, going down 2-1 to Hucknall Town and 1-0 to Chesterfield in a behind closed doors game. Another interesting development is the launch of a supporter-driven company, which aims to allow fans to purchase blocks of shares with the ultimate intention of financing the takeover of the club. Details are somewhat sketchy at the moment but further meetings of the fledgling company are planned.
15/07 Mark Kearney has been appointed as Bill Deardens assistant, after leaving Shrewsbury Town. The appointment has been widely welcomed, as Mark was a favourite during his time as a Stags player. On the playing side, Dearden has signed Lee Cowling, a left-sided sided defender, from Nottingham Forest. Also, in a closed game last Monday Stags were edged-out 2-1 against near-neighbours Notts County.
08/07 With the embargo lifted, Mansfield Town boss Billy Dearden has been given the go-ahead to sign 7 or 8 new players and an assistant manager. It is rumoured that the first arrival is Mark Barnard, who arrives on a free from Darlington. Also, Gary Tallon and Darrell Clarke have both signed new contracts.
28/06 Tony Ford has left Mansfield Town to join former boss Steve Parkin at
Rochdale. It is not clear whether a ttransfer fee is involved as Ford was still under
contract at Mansfield. The move leaves Stags boss Billy Dearden free to
appoint his own
No.2 on return from holiday.
Mansfield Town have been drawn to play Nottingham Forest in the first round
of the Worthington Cup. The first leg takes place at the City ground on August 10th.
